Lorraine Humes

A Funeral Service for Lorraine Humes will be held on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Alma, Nebraska, with Pastor Tom Walker officiating.  Interment will follow at the Iowa Union Cemetery, rural Phillipsburg, Kansas.

Lorraine Margaret Humes, 93 years of age, of Orleans, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at the Good Samaritan Society Colonial Villa in Alma. Lorraine was born in rural Phillipsburg, Kansas on July 28, 1931, the eldest of three children born to Marvin and Clara (Merklein) Smith. She joined three half siblings at home.  She received her primary education from the Iowa School House in Union, Kansas, through the 8th grade.

On January 2, 1953, Lorraine was united in marriage to LeRoy E. Humes in Stuttgart, Kansas.   The couple made their home on a farm and were blessed with three children:  Randy, Edwin, and Melinda.  Lorraine helped LeRoy on the farm and later worked for Becton Dickinson in Holdrege, and Campbell's Soup Company in Oxford, Nebraska.

She was a member of the Orleans Legion Auxiliary and the Order of the Eastern Star.  In her free time, she enjoyed horseback riding.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, LeRoy; her daughter, Melinda in 2000; a grandson, Tracy Humes; a granddaughter, Ashlie Humes; and her siblings:  Charlene Rodregez; Wayne Smith; Wilma Miracle; and Genevive Bohl.

Lorraine leaves to celebrate her life, her sons:  Randy Humes of Orleans; and Edwin Humes and his wife, Dena of Elizabeth, Colorado; four grandchildren:  Terry, Randi, Eric, and Travis; great-grandchildren:  McKayLynn, Isabella, Dallas Jo, Archer, Kailey, Madilynn, Brently, Alli, Arianna, and Titus; one great-great-grandson: Casey; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great-nephews, and extended family members.

A Visitation will be held prior to the service, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Alma.

A memorial has been established in Lorraine's honor and kindly suggested to the family for future designation.
