Lucas John Lans, 22 years of age, of Stamford, unexpectedly passed away on Sunday, November 8, 2020, at the Tri Valley Health System in Cambridge, Nebraska.  Lucas was born on July 2, 1998, in Holdrege, Nebraska, the youngest of five children to Mike and Tami (Kresser) Lans.  Lucas attended and graduated from Southern Valley High School in 2017.  He excelled in academics, was a member of the National Honor Society and served as vice president of FFA.  Lucas also succeeded in football setting many records, including surpassing his brother, Devin's previous longest touchdown run record.  He was an ultimate competitor, and took pride in doing so!  A highlight was being chosen for the Nebraska East/West All-Star game his senior year.  After high school, Lucas moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, where he was pursuing a college degree.  He quickly learned that stop lights and rush hour traffic were not for him.  Lucas eventually ventured back to the family farm, where he cherished working with his Dad and enjoyed eating his Mom's home cooked meals.

Lucas loved the outdoors and found many hobbies that he enjoyed in those wide open spaces.  He grew up hunting with his family and friends and wasn't likely to turn down any opportunity.  In the summertime you could find him fixing up a derby car, on the lake boating, fishing, or spending time with those close to him.  At the young age of five he started riding dirt bikes and later developed exceptional talent as a motocross racer.  He found a deep passion for the sport where he won countless trophies and a handful of trips to the ER for his efforts. He spent many hours on the track that he helped create and build on the family farm. He truly was a joy to watch perform.

Lucas was known for his sense of adventure and fearlessness; he was always ready for the next challenge.  He had a contagious laugh and enjoyed connecting and being with his family and friends.  His nephews and nieces adored him and typically found a way to have his undivided attention.  He loved deeply and was loved even more. He will be missed dearly by many.

He was preceded in death by his grandpa, Cletus Kresser; and great-grandma, Joy Ann McInturf.

Lucas is survived by his parents:  Mike and Tami Lans of Stamford; four siblings:  Jeremy Lans and his wife, Mandy of Stamford; Michelle Sorensen and her husband, Dane of Chandler, Arizona; Devin Lans and his wife, Hennessey of Orleans; and Darcy Kunzman and her husband, Scott of Lincoln, Nebraska; his grandparents:  Dean and Billie of Stamford; and Ruth Kresser of Kearney, Nebraska; twelve nieces and nephews:  Hayden, Hunter, Hudson, Houston, Kresten, Kynlee, Braxtynn, Kooper, Quincy, Paizlee, Aliza and Izaac; uncles and aunts: Joe and Julie Kresser of Stamford; Rich and Tammy Kresser of Kearney; and Ron and Christine Nelson of Lee's Summit, Missouri; special friend, Hailey Utterback of Beaver City, Nebraska; his fur babies:  Jax and Owen; along with cousins, extended family and friends.
