A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial for Lucile A. (Lennemann) Weinand will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Alma, Nebraska, with Father Maurice Currant as Celebrant. Interment will follow at the Alma Cemetery.
Lucile departed this life peacefully at the age of 95 and 4 months on October 2, 2025, under the care of the staff at Christian Homes of Holdrege and Brookstone Home Health and Hospice.
Lucile Ann Lennemann Weinand was born on June 3, 1930, on their family farm on Rope Creek between Alma and Orleans, Nebraska. Lucile was the first born of Frederick Charles Lennemann and Mary "Margaret" (Colgan) Lennemann.
Lucile was baptized at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Orleans. She attended grade school at the Midway School, two miles from her home and finished her high school education as the proud valedictorian of the Orleans class of 1948. She worked as office personnel at Cudahy's Packing Company until she was offered a bookkeeping job by the Harlan County Treasurer's office, where she worked until she married.
Lucile met her future husband in 1945 at Clink's roller skating rink in Alma, where she claimed he gallantly rescued her from a calamitous, first attempt skating performance. Lucile and John Robert Weinand were married at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Orleans, Nebraska on November 18, 1950. John was then immediately drafted into the Army to serve during the Korean Conflict. Over the years, Lucile fondly recounted memories of their time in the Southern US during John's service years. Returning to the Weinand home place, they farmed, worked hard and raised three children, Ray, Mary and Mark. Lucile selflessly returned to work in 1969 in order to offer college educations to her children. She retired from Becton Dickinson in 1994 after 25 years.
Lucile enjoyed serving her Church through the years as an active member of the Altar Society. She enjoyed learning and playing a chord organ in the early/mid sixties after watching over the shoulder during her daughter's accordion lessons. She also enjoyed sewing, collecting family photos, genealogy, dancing and reading. But she always loved family gatherings the most.
Lucile was predeceased by John, her husband of 67 years; her siblings: Mary "Joan" Lennemann Elley and Donald Charles Lennemann; a son-in-law, Larry Goessling; and many other relatives.
She is survived by her children Ray Weinand and wife, Fredlyn of Columbus; Mary (Weinand) Goessling of Alma; and Mark Weinand of Kearney; five grandchildren: Tyler Weinand and wife, Kristen of Omaha; Jay Weinand and wife, Michelle, of Columbus; Anne (Goessling) Hatch and husband, Chris, of Lincoln and Laura Goessling of Alma; Nicole Sinsel of Denver, CO; four great grandchildren: Oscar and Zeke Weinand and Emmett and Claire Hatch and numerous other relatives and friends.
A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the family present, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Alma. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.
A memorial has been established in Lucile's honor, and kindly suggested to the family for a purpose to be decided.
