Memorial Graveside Services for Lyle H. Johnston will be conducted from the Industry Cemetery in rural Atlanta, Nebraska on Thursday, November 1, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. with Mr. Dan Jensen, officiating. Inurnment will be in the Industry Cemetery.

Lyle H. Johnston, 73 years of age, of Kearney, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, October 25, 2007 at his home in Kearney. Lyle was born December 4, 1933 at Beloit, Kansas, the second of six children of Fred and Nona (Gentry) Johnston. Lyle received his primary education in rural Phelps County and then attended the Loomis Public School.

Following his education, Lyle engaged in farming on the family farm near Atlanta. Lyle later was employed in the Land Leveling Business for Bob Mines and then Jim Ostgren Construction Company for many years. Later in years, Lyle was employed by the City of Holdrege until his retirement in 1995.

On March 30, 1963 he was united in marriage to Sheila J. "Bonnie" Bonner at Alma, Nebraska and to this union three children were born: Debra Sue, Marc Allen and Robert Lyle. The family made their home in Holdrege, where Lyle enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his friends and family. In 2000, the couple made their home in Kearney.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Bonnie of Kearney; three sons: Kerry Peters and his wife, Debra of North Platte, Nebraska, Marc Johnston of Alma and Robert Johnston and his wife, Tori of Holdrege; eight grandchildren: Josh, Mikell, Blake, Stephan, Dallen, Anastazia, Caleb and Tyler; brother, Raye Johnston and his wife, Betty of Loomis, Nebraska; two sisters: Lois Martin and her husband, Tom of Commerce City, Colorado and Jean Ann Jakob and her husband, David of Grand Island, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Darrel Maaske and his wife, Jan of Loomis; sister-in-law, Glenna Johnston of Bloomington, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Debra Sue in infancy; sister, Faye Maaske and brother, Neil Johnston.

There will be no visitation, the family is honoring Lyle's wish for cremation.

A memorial has been established in his memory.
