A Memorial Service for Mae E. McClymont will be held on Monday, May 16, 2022, at 2:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Reverend Dr. W. Kirwin Stewart, Jr., officiating. A private inurnment will be held at the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege, prior to the service.

Mae Elizabeth McClymont, 100 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2022, at Holdrege Memorial Homes. Mae was born on September 15, 1921, in Hollister, California, the third of four children born to Emil Emanuel and Irene Elizabeth (Swanson) Spongberg. She received her education from Kearney Public Schools in Kearney, Nebraska, graduating with the class of 1938. She then pursued higher education from Kearney State College, and swam on the synchronized swim team, for two years and then attended Cook County School of Nursing in Chicago, Illinois, graduating as a Registered Nurse. She began her career as the Nurse at the Holdrege Public School.

On December 23, 1947. she was united in marriage to Robert Mark "Bob" McClymont and to this union two children were born: Elizabeth Ann and Kirk Mark. The family made their home on the farm west of Holdrege, where the couple enjoyed the labor of the land. They were honored to be recognized and presented the Nebraska Pioneer Farm Award by Ak-Sar-Ben for 100 years of continued family farm ownership. Mae was a dedicated floor nurse at the Holdrege Hospital from 1952 to 1968. She then was the school nurse for the ESU, until her retirement in 1996. The couple enjoyed traveling with friends and attending Nebraska Football games during their retirement. On May 1, 2010, she was preceded in death by Bob.

Mae was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church, serving as past Elder and held numerous titles in the women's association. She was active at the Nebraska Prairie Museum and the Holdrege Senior Center. She was a lifetime member of the Job's Daughters in the Kearney Chapter, and a member of the American Legion Axillary, The Rebekah's, the Central Nebraska School of Nurses Association, and a charter member of the BPO Does.

Mae loved to play Bridge and cards with friends. She also enjoyed knitting, counter cross-stitch, reading, and crossword puzzles. But most of all, Mae's family was the highlight of her life and she treasured family gatherings and holidays spent together.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mark and Nettie (Cobb) McClymont; daughter-in-law, Leslie McClymont; two brothers: Robert Spongberg and his wife, Maxine; and Ralph Spongberg and his wife, Carolyn; sister, Grace Geist and her husband, Fred; sister-in-law, Florence Rickard and her husband, Donal; and one brother-in-law, Fred Williams.

She leaves to celebrate her life; her son, Kirk McClymont of Holdrege; daughter, Betsy Olson and her husband, Roger D. Olson of Holdrege; two grandchildren: Allison Post and her husband, Charles "Billy" Post of Denver, Colorado; and Mark "Drew" McClymont and his wife, Katey of Holdrege; two great-grandchildren:  Paul and Michael McClymont; two step-grandchildren: Nancy Garrelts and her husband, Todd; and Dave Olson, all of Holdrege; four step-great-grandchildren: Paige Marquardt and her husband, Austin; and Blake Garrelts; and Sloane and Ryder Post; one sister-in-law, Jean Williams of Funk, Nebraska; special friend and neighbor, Judy Vaughn of Holdrege; and a host of other relatives and friends.

There will be no visitation, the family is honoring Mae's wish for cremation.

A memorial has been established in Mae's memory and kindly suggested to the First Presbyterian Church in Holdrege, the Nebraska Prairie Museum, or the Holdrege Senior Center.
