Funeral Services for Mae M. Mossop will be conducted from the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bertrand, Nebraska on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Gary Panko, officiating. Interment will be in the Immanuel Cemetery north of Bertrand.
Mae Marie Mossop, 82 years of age, of Bertrand, passed away on Friday, February 20, 2009 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege, Nebraska. Mae was born on February 21, 1926 at Bertrand, one of three children of Alfred and Marie (Bard) Larson. She received her education from Bertrand, graduating from Bertrand High School. She then pursued higher education at Hastings College in Hastings, Nebraska.
During WWII, she met John Alvin Mossop while he was serving at Camp Atlanta at Atlanta, Nebraska. The couple was united in marriage on October 1, 1945 in St. Louis, Missouri. To this union two sons were born: Michael and Greg. While the boys were young, Mae focused on caring for her family and working as a homemaker. In 1988, they returned to Bertrand. On June 11, 1992 she was preceded in death by her husband, John.
In her earlier years, Mae enjoyed cooking and loved to read.
She leaves to mourn her passing her son, Greg Mossop of Bertrand; two grandsons: Tom Mossop of Bertrand and Toby Stapleton of Holdrege; one great-granddaughter, Isabelle Mae Mossop; one brother, Leon Larson of Bertrand; one daughter-in-law, Gayle Mossop of Holdrege; two sisters-in-law: Elizabeth Muldoon of Jefferson City, Missouri and Shirley Starkey of St. Louis, Missouri; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Michael Mossop on March 10, 2003; and two brothers: Forrest Larson and Keith Larson in infancy.
Mae will lie in state at the Sandstrom Funeral Home in Bertrand on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.
A memorial has been established in her memory and will be designated at a later date.
