Funeral Services for Makenna R. James-Smith will be held on Friday, November 13, 2020, at 3:00 p.m. at the Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastor Daren Popple officiating; with the new 25% rated occupancy restriction. Graveside Services will follow at the Moses Hill Cemetery, northwest of Holdrege, in rural Phelps County, Nebraska.
Due to health concerns, regarding the COVID-19 pandemic; current CDC and Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services guidelines for Faith-Based Services and Gatherings will be followed. Makenna's family sincerely encourages each person to make their decision whether to attend the services, based on the best interest of your health, and that of your community. Makenna Rose James-Smith, 14 years of age, of Wilcox, Nebraska, died on Thursday, November 5, 2020, as the result of a one car accident. Makenna was born on October 21, 2006, in Janesville, Wisconsin, to Allan and Robin (James) Smith. She received her primary education and attended Wilcox-Hildreth Public Schools through the 5 th grade; and was currently attending Holdrege Middle School, as an 8 th grader. Makenna enjoyed playing volleyball last year as a 7 th grader.
Makenna had a love for her brothers, she so affectionately nicknamed, "Billy Bob and Donny". She loved dancing, especially Tap Dance; spending time with her friends; and camping, boating, cruising in the golf cart, and spending time with friends at Patterson Harbor. She was a talented artist, and also loved to paint.
Makenna will be remembered for her father's attitude, and independence.
She was preceded in death by: paternal grandmother, Joy Smith; great-grandparents: Harry and Mary Smith; Glen and Norma James; and Clarence and Phyllis Wilsey; great-grandma, Pearl Atkisson; and great-grandpa, Delbert Stone.
Makenna is survived by; her parents: Allan and Robin Smith of Wilcox; three brothers: Killian and Donovan Smith of Wilcox; and Tyler Smith of Deltona, Florida; maternal grandparents: Mel and Sharon James of Axtell, Nebraska; paternal grandfather: Dan Smith of Beaver City, Nebraska; two aunts: Becky Thomas and husband, Glenn of Holdrege; and Amy Govier and husband, Trey of Lincoln, Nebraska; two uncles: Troy James of Wood, South Dakota; and Nicholas Smith and wife, Brenda of Holdrege; along with many cousins, extended family, classmates, and friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 12, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege. Facemasks will be required.
A memorial has been established in Makenna's honor and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
