Celebration of life service for Marcia V. Rost will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Reverend Dr. Cathi Braasch, STS officiating. Interment will be held at the Bethany Lutheran Cemetery in rural Axtell, Nebraska following a luncheon at the church.

Marcia Verlene Rost, 89 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Marcia was born on June 24, 1927 in rural Polk County, Nebraska, the second of three children born to Oliver and Alvena (Flodman) Adelson. When her mother remarried, she was adopted by Robert Stohl.

Marcia attended Polk High School and graduated with the class of 1945. She then pursued higher education, where she received her associates degree from Luther College in Wahoo, Nebraska. It was here that she met the love of her life, John "Waldo" Rost. Marcia continued her education, receiving a bachelors degree in 1956 and a masters degree in 1965 from Kearney State College in Kearney, Nebraska. She started her teaching career as a rural teacher in Polk County, taught three years in the intermediate grades at Axtell, three years in upper grades at Loomis, Nebraska, four years at Wilcox, Nebraska and finished her career as a high school English teacher in the Holdrege Public School System.

On July 23, 1950, she was united in marriage to J. Waldo Rost at the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Swede Home, in Polk County and to this union three children were born: Genon, Monica and Clendon. In 2000, the couple returned to Polk County church, where they were married and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with relatives and friends. Waldo preceded her in death on March 4, 2001.

Marcia held many offices in education associations throughout the years, including: past president of the Kearney County Education Association, and was an active member in the Nebraska and National Councils of English Teachers. She was also a charter member of A.A.U.W., served on the Community Concert Board and was a long-time member of Chapter H, P.E.O.

As a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, she taught Sunday school and Bible school, was active with the L.C.W. and served in many women's organizations of the church.

Marcia's hobbies were centered on her love of England. She took college courses there in English literature and collected books and other memorabilia on English history and drama. Marcia and Waldo loved to travel together and toured extensively around the U.S. as well as 12 countries in Europe.

Besides her husband and parents; Marcia is preceded in death by two brothers: Marland Adelson and LaVaughn Adelson; and her sister-in-law, Elaine Landstrom.

She leaves to celebrate her life; her three children: Genon Murray and Michael Murray both of Orlando, Florida, Monica Meusburger and Ty Meusburger both of Denver, Colorado and Clendon Rost and his wife, Amy of Oakland, Nebraska; seven grandchildren: Megan and Liam Murray, Valery and Steffani Meusburger, and Preston, Sabrina, and Celeste Rost; half-sister, Genon Hedrick of Waco, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Carroll Landstrom of Axtell; sister-in-law, Corinne Adelson of Polk, Nebraska; her aunt, Algene Stohl of Lincoln, Nebraska and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 30, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in Marcia's honor and kindly suggested to Mosaic at the Bethphage Mission Campus at Axtell.
