Margaret Duffey

A Funeral Service for Margaret "Maggie" Duffey will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska, with Chaplain Lisa Ewald officiating. Interment will follow at the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege.

Margaret Marie "Maggie" Duffey, 82 years of age, of Bertrand, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at the Heritage Nursing Home in Red Cloud, Nebraska. Margaret was born on August 10, 1942, in Holdrege, one of three children, born to Harold E. and Myrtle (Johnson) Upson. She received her education from Elm Creek, Holdrege, Bertrand, and Loomis schools.

She was united in marriage to David L. Johnson, following his discharge from the United States Army and they were blessed with three children: Michelle, David Lee, Jr., and Valerie.  The family made their home in Bertrand, where Margaret stayed home and cared for her family.  The couple would later divorce.

On July 29, 2001, Margaret was united in marriage to James A. "Silver Eagle" Duffey.  The couple made their home in Bertrand.

Margaret was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bertrand and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Arie #3132 of Holdrege.  She enjoyed baking, especially pies.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Alvin Duffey; her siblings:  Robert Upson; and Venita Kay Kitzke; two children:  David L. Johnson, Jr.; and Valerie Myers; and one granddaughter, Martika Johnson.

Margaret leaves to celebrate her life; her daughter, Michelle Johnson of Holdrege; five grandchildren:  Derek Winkler and his wife, Charyssa; Stephanie Winkler; Thad Winkler and significant other, Nichole; Brandon Johnson and his wife, Karie; and Stephen Johnson; five great-grandchildren: Hunter; Ayden; Brailyn; Legend; and Maverick; and a host of nieces, and nephews, and friends.

A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

Memorials in Margaret's honor are kindly suggested to the family for future designation.
