Margaret L. Lafile

Funeral Services for Margaret L. LaFile will be conducted from the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska on Tuesday, March 13, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Virginia Fleharty, officiating. Interment will be in the Freewater Cemetery in Harlan County, Nebraska.

Margaret Lillian LaFile, 86 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Friday, March 9, 2007 at the Holdrege Memorial Homes. Margaret was born October 15, 1920 in Platte County, Nebraska, the eldest of three children of Nels Luther and Eugenia Elvera (Hultman) Reed. She received her primary education in Platte County. Margaret was confirmed at the age of 14 at the Salem Lutheran Church in Platte County. She then graduated from St. Edwards High School at St. Edwards, Nebraska with the class of 1939.

Following her education she taught school for three years. Margaret was then employed at the Ordinance Depot in Grand Island, Nebraska. On August 25, 1943 she was united in marriage to Armand William "Bill" LaFile Jr. in Grand Island and to this union three children were born: Sandra and twin sons, Charles and Richard. After WW II, the family made their home in Douglas County, Nebraska, where she focused on raising their children. Later the couple moved to Fremont, Nebraska in 1966, where she was employed by the Campbell Soup Company until her retirement in 1976. In 1990, the couple moved to Holdrege and on November 3, 1996, Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Bill.

Margaret enjoyed crocheting, knitting, embroidery and painting in her free time. She also enjoyed tending to her garden and loved spending time with her family.

She leaves to mourn her passing her daughter, Sandy McNiel and her husband, George of rural Holdrege; two sons: Charles LaFile of Axtell, Nebraska and Richard LaFile and his wife, Agni of Crete, Greece; seven grandchildren: Daryl McNiel of Omaha, Nebraska, Kevin McNiel and Charles LaFile, Jr. all of Holdrege, Cindy McNiel of Kearney, Nebraska, Patti LaFile of San Angelo, Texas, Richard LaFile and Pandelitsa LaFile both of Crete, Greece; five great-grandchildren: Erika, Brooke and Nathan McNiel and Harlan and Zachary LaFile ; sister, Louann Rix and her husband, Melvin of Fremont; brother, Vernon Reed and his wife, Marlene of Bennington, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her husband, Bill she was preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. LaFile will lie in state at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Monday, March 12, 2007 from 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

A memorial has been established in her memory and designated to the Phelps County Senior Center.
