Celebration of Life Service for Marian A. Raburn will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Rev. Dr. Mark Crist officiating. Private family inurnment will be held at the Cambridge Cemetery in Cambridge, Nebraska at a later date.
Marian Aleta Raburn, 92 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Holdrege Memorial Homes. She was born April 8, 1930, in Bartley, Nebraska, the youngest of five children born to William and Elma (Hodgkin) Burton. Marian received her education at Bartley, graduating from Bartley High School with the class of 1948.
On July 5, 1946, she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Harold Raburn at Oberlin, Kansas, and to this union, three children were born: Geanene, Danny, and Terri. The couple made their home at Bartley, while Harold was in college and then relocated to Indianola, Nebraska, where Marian worked at the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation in McCook, Nebraska. Harold then pursued his passion for Pharmacy School in Weatherford, Oklahoma. Following graduation, the family made their home in Holdrege, where they owned and operated Raburn Pharmacy. Marian worked as the bookkeeper for the Pharmacy and was the receptionist at the Phelps County Senior Center. In retirement, the couple enjoyed traveling and camping. Her family was most important and especially loved the time together around Christmas. On September 19, 2013, Harold preceded her in death.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, where she enjoyed many bible studies. She was also a member of the B.P.O.E. Does and the Eastern Star. Marian was a skilled piano player and enjoyed using her talents to play for the Methodist Church in Indianola for many years, the Atlanta Methodist Church, and was also the pianist for the Eastern Star in Kearney, Nebraska.
Marian had a servant's heart and loved to help others. She also enjoyed reading and traveling with her daughters.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Crystal Raburn; three brothers: her twin brother, Merlin Burton and his wife, Donna Louise; Francis Burton; and Gerald Burton and his wife, Grace; her sister, Audrey Troester and her husband, Elbert; and three brothers-in-law: Jasper in infancy; Darold Raburn and his wife, Sharon; and Robert (Joe) Raburn.
Marian leaves to celebrate her life; three children: Geanene Schafer and her husband, Ron of Marquette, Nebraska; Danny Raburn of Holdrege; and Terri Raburn of Lincoln; four grandchildren: Amanda Olson and her husband, Joseph of Holdrege; Geri Raburn and her husband, John Ingraham of Holdrege; Tiffany Eggleston and her husband, Matt of Aurora, Nebraska; and Jonathan Schafer and his wife, Alyssa of Central City, Nebraska; twelve great-grandchildren: Alexis, Trystin, Lane, Adriene, Jaren, Ella, Makinley, Quincey, Sophie, Haddie, Tallan, and Beckham; one great-great-grandchild, Scarlett; two sisters-in-law: Goldene Burton; and Lorene Raburn, both of Cambridge; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A memorial book signing will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in Marian's honor and kindly suggested to the Phelps County Senior Center or the North Park Animal Shelter in Holdrege.
