Graveside Services for Marilyn P. Barton will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the Orleans Cemetery at Orleans, Nebraska with Pastor Jean Clayton officiating.

Due to health concerns, regarding the COVID-19 pandemic; current CDC and Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services guidelines for Faith-Based Services and Gatherings will be followed.  The Barton family sincerely encourages each person to make their decision whether to attend her service, based on the best interest of your health, and that of your community. Marilyn Pauline (Shaffer) Barton passed away on January 10, 2021, in Boulder, Colorado. Marilyn was born on March 15, 1940, in Litchfield, Nebraska. She was the youngest of three children born to Lowell and Leona Shaffer. Marilyn spent her childhood in Willow Island, Nebraska, on her family farm with her two sisters. She raised animals and participated in 4-H and county fairs. After graduating from Gothenburg High School, she moved to Denver, Colorado, to attend business school. While in Denver, Marilyn married and raised three children, Christina Anne, Elizabeth Leslie, and Henry (Skip) Alexander. For most of her career, she worked at several non-profit organizations in the Denver area, supporting people in the community.

Besides her parents, Marilyn was preceded in death by her daughter, Elizabeth Dean.

She is survived by her children: Chris Barton and her husband, Michael Manion of Frisco, Texas; and Skip Barton of Newburg, Maryland; seven grandchildren: Jeff Barton; Tony Dean; Nick (Beau) Dean; Jessica Farris; Savanna Farris; Brandon Barton; and Austin Barton; five great-grandchildren; her two sisters: LaVonne (Mitzi) Keuter; and Carol Turner; and a host of other relatives and friends.
