Memorial Services for Marjorie H. Palmer will be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastors Paul Bauman and Murray Jones officiating.  Private family interment will be held at the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege, prior to the services.

Marjorie Hazel Palmer, 96 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege.  Marjorie was born on October 2, 1919 in Randolph, Nebraska, the youngest of four children born to Floyd and Maude (Jay) Matthews.  At a young age, Marge's father passed away.  Her mother married Harry Fouts and together they raised eight children.  She received her education and graduated from Wilcox High School.

On December 12, 1940, she was united in marriage to Bernard Alvin Palmer and to this union, they raised four children:  James Barret (Barry), Morris Jay, Bonnie Lou and Janice Kay. They made their home in Holdrege where they owned and operated Palmer Brothers Granite Company.  The couple were active members at the Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Holdrege.

Marge and Bernie had a passion for traveling and enjoyed spending their summers in Saskatchewan, since 1962, where they wrote many books together.  Marge was active for many years with Gideon's International. They also traveled to Holland, where they were acquainted with Annie Philipsen, who they later made part of their family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bernard; two brothers: Morris Matthews and Evan Matthews; sister, Mamie Christensen; step-son, James Barry Palmer and his wife, Kathryn; granddaughter, Jill Palmer and great-granddaughter, Janessa Young.

She leaves to celebrate her life; son: Morrie Palmer and his wife, Judy of Grand Island, Nebraska; daughters: Bonnie Young and her husband, Doug of Holdrege and Jan Fowler and her husband, Ed of Holdrege; foster daughter, Annie Oswald and her husband, Randy of Omaha, Nebraska; 16 grandchildren: Lori Floyd and her husband, Craig of Rockville, Maryland, Juli Kardell and her husband, Dudley of Holdrege, Jim Palmer and his wife, Angie of Elm Creek, Nebraska, Greg Palmer of Grand Island, Kim Palmer of Fort Collins, Colorado, Somi Palmer of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Mike Young and his wife, Tiffany of Kearney, Nebraska, Corey Young of Holdrege, Jay Young and his wife, Teri of Kearney, Keri Young of Kearney, Angie Cooper and her husband, Mike of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, Stacy Parker and her husband, Barry of Peru, Nebraska, Jeramy Fowler and his wife, Carmen of York, Nebraska, Desirae Tira and her husband, Jason of Minden, Nebraska, Troy Oswald and his wife, Sandy of Dallas, Texas, and Shawn Oswald and his wife, Teresa of Springdale, Arkansas; 35 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren; along with a host of many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 26, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

A memorial has been established in Marjorie's honor and kindly suggested to Gideon's International.
