In June of 1960, Mark was drafted into the United States Army and honorably served until his discharge in June of 1966. He was proud of his military service and deeply loved his country.
In June 1965, he was united in marriage to Janice Mardell "Mardy" Joy. To this union, one daughter, Candy Michelle (Davies) Bussinger, was born. Mark was a proud grandfather to Dr. Brenton Mark Bussinger of Omaha.
Mark built a respected career as a supervising electrician, working on numerous commercial projects including the Twin Tower Dorms at Kearney State College, shopping malls throughout Nebraska and Kansas, schools, railroads across Nebraska, and Los Alamos Labs in New Mexico. He later transitioned into education, teaching electrician training at TVI in Albuquerque, where he also founded ABC Job Placement Services to assist graduates. He retired in 1988.
In 1990, Mark pursued his passion for the outdoors by owning and operating Livery Stables at El Vado Lake, NM. There, he provided guided horseback rides ranging from two-hour excursions to full-day trips, as well as guided fishing, camping, and elk hunting experiences in remote mountainous regions.
Mark had a lifelong love of the outdoors, enjoying hunting, fishing, boating, skiing, camping, horseback riding, building, and watching sports. He designed and built three homes for his family over the years. Even in retirement, Mark remained active, volunteering for several years at the cemetery in Kimball, Nebraska, and most recently helping care for plants at Chrisoma Villa where he lived.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Dale and Darlene Davies; his sister, Kay (Davies) Pinkley; brother-in-law, Ron Joy; and his in-laws, Dale and Elise Joy.
