Funeral Services for Marlene M. Brock will be conducted from the First United Methodist Church in Lexington, Nebraska on Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Connie Karr, officiating. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington.
Marlene Meriam Brock, 92 years of age, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away on Saturday, February 16, 2008 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege, Nebraska. Marlene was born on November 9, 1915 on the family farm ten miles from Springview in Keya Paha County, Nebraska, the second of six children of Homer and Pearl (Bingham) Shattuck. She received her primary education in rural schools and then graduated from Keya Paha County High School with the class of 1934. She worked on the Reservation and ranch for several summers. Marlene then apprenticed in a Beauty Shop and then pursued her Cosmetology license, graduating from Beauty School in Omaha, Nebraska.
On March 30, 1943 she was united in marriage to Ray Albert Brock Sr. at Galveston, Texas and to this union four sons were born: Ray Albert Sr., Terry Gene, Craig Alan and Mark Kenneth. Following Ray's discharge from the service, the family made their home in Alliance, Nebraska until moving to Lexington in 1952. Marlene continued her career as a Beautician in Lexington operating her salon, "The Beauty Stop" in the basement of their home. Due to her husband's illness, Marlene retired in 1977 after fifty plus years of special bonds formed with her clients as a Beautician. This same year, her husband, Ray, preceded Marlene in death.
Marlene was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lexington, served as a Den Mother for the Boy Scouts for all four sons; was a member and past Treasurer of the Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W. Post #5136, member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #111, and active through the years with the Eastern Star Chapter in Lexington. Marlene also enjoyed volunteering her time at the Bloodmobile for over fifty years, she enjoyed dancing and playing cards and loved spending time with her family.
She leaves to mourn her passing her son, Craig Brock and his wife, Bonnie of Bertrand, Nebraska; daughter-in-law, Linda Brock of Lexington; five grandchildren: Ivan Brock of Lexington, Tory Earleywine and her husband, Ryan of Lincoln, Tammy Bojorquez of Lexington, Jessica Brock of Hastings, Nebraska and Travis Brock of Bertrand; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters: Meta Maslonka of Tekamah, Nebraska and Maxetta Maslonka of Walthill, Nebraska;two sisters-in-law: Charlotte Shattuck of Kearney, Nebraska and Donna Shattuck of Yakima,Washington; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; three sons: Terry, Ray and Mark Brock; two brothers: Mervin Shattuck and LaMar "Buck" Shattuck; one sister, Maxene Duncan and her husband, Dale; two brothers-in-law: Edward and Raymond Maslonka.
Visitation for Marlene will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Lexington, Nebraska on Monday, February 18, 2008 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
A memorial has been established in her memory and will be designated at a later date.
