Funeral Services for Marlene L. Johnson will be held on Friday, September 26, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastor Ted Carnahan officiating.  Interment will be held in the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege following the service.

Marlene Lenore Johnson, 72 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2014 at the Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney, Nebraska.  Marlene was born September 11, 1942 at Holdrege, the second of four children born to Kermit and Dorothy (Leaf) Seeman.  She received her primary education and graduated from Holdrege High School with the class of 1960.

On January 15, 1961, Marlene was united in marriage to Raymond LeRoy "Bris" Johnson.  The family made their home in Holdrege, before settling in Funk, Nebraska.  Marlene worked for Lorne Anderson, Public Account, in Holdrege, as a bookkeeper and secretary before focusing on raising a family.  The family was blessed with three children:  Melissa, Randall and Ross.  The family made their home in Funk for 17 years, where Marlene and Raymond were active in church and community affairs.

Marlene was active in the Fridhem Lutheran Church, serving as secretary for 13 years.  While living in Funk, she was a member of the Phelps County Joint Planning Commission.  In 1976, she began working at Emken Bookkeeping in Holdrege and was proud to be a current owner.

In the 1980's, the family began to make their home in Holdrege.  Marlene and Raymond transferred their membership to Bethel Lutheran Church, later she helped found Spirit of Grace Lutheran Church in 2011.

Marlene was a member and served as Treasurer of the Holdrege Rotary International, the Tassel Performing Arts Center, the Business Professional Women's group, the Phelps County Historical Society and the Nebraska Prairie Museum and was a Co-leader of Stephen Ministry, leader of the Martha Circle and member of the Nangs Samorson Extension Club.

Marlene enjoyed spending time with her family, attending church, reading and attending live performances throughout the state.  Marlene especially enjoyed working and helping people.

Besides her husband, Raymond, she was preceded in death by her parents; son, Randall Johnson in infancy in 1969; brother: Kenneth Seeman in 2010; brothers-in-law:  Clarence Johnson and his wife, Evelyn, LaVerne Johnson and his wife, Josephine and Cloyd Johnson; and sister-in-law, Marguerite Skiles and her husband, Howard.

Marlene is survived by her children:  Ross Johnson of Holdrege and Melissa Boutwell and her husband, Karl of Holdrege; five grandchildren:  Erik Boutwell and his wife, Nozomi of Phoenix, Arizona, Justin Boutwell, Avery Johnson, Addison Johnson and Becky Bergman all of Holdrege; two great-grandchildren, Kailey and Jameson; sister, Karen Daffer and her husband, Barry of Lincoln, Nebraska;  brother, Larry Seeman and his partner, Ray Landry of Tampa, Florida; two sisters-in-law: Colene Seeman of Omaha, Nebraska and Susan Pozehl of Lincoln; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in Marlene's honor and kindly suggested to the Tassel Coordination Counsel or Spirit of Grace Lutheran Church in Holdrege.
