A Memorial Service with Army Funeral Honors for Marlin J. Kammann will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the Johnson Community Center in Alma, Nebraska, with Pastor Curtis Pfeil officiating.
A Celebration of Life Open House will continue until 6:00 p.m. at the Johnson Center, following the memorial service.
An inurnment will be held later date, at the Historic Chapel at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Omaha, Nebraska.
Marlin John Kammann, 73 years of age, of Alma, Nebraska, passed away on Monday, July 19, 2021 at his home, surrounded by his family. Marlin was born on June 9, 1948, in Omaha and was adopted and raised by Harvey and Ruby (Dunklau) Kammann. Marlin received his education from Holdrege Public Schools and later graduated from Holdrege High School, with the class of 1966.
He then attended Kearney State College and later enlisted in to the United States Army on August 22, 1968. He completed his Basic Training at Fort Lewis, Washington and served during the Vietnam War. On March 23, 1970, Marlin was honorably discharged.
On June 2, 1979, Marlin was united in marriage to Victoria Hogeland at the Chapel at the Alma Hospital. The couple made their home in Alma, where he began working for the Harlan County Department of Roads. God blessed this union with three children: Lindsay, Adam, and Nick. Marlin worked for many different grain elevators and co-ops throughout his career. In August of 2017, he retired from the Oxford Elevator.
Together the family enjoyed many road trips and family vacations to California, Alaska, and Hawaii. Marlin enjoyed being outdoors, camping, boating, making walking sticks and bird feeders in his spare time, and taking pictures.
Marlin was a recent member of the Fay Cady American Legion of Alma. He inspired and touched hundreds of lives through is recovery, which also gave him the strength to continue on his path of sobriety and recovery.
Marlin was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Adam Kammann and his significant other, Christine Zadina in 2017; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bob and JoAnn (Conant) Hogeland.
Marlin leaves to celebrate his life, his wife of 42 years, Vickie Kammann of Alma; his daughter, Lindsay Schinasi and her husband, Evan of Omaha; son, Nick Kammann and his wife, Chelsey of LaVista, Nebraska; four step-grandchildren: Nathan, Jae, and Skyy Zadina of Augusta, Georgia; and Harper Schinasi of Omaha; Marlin's cousin, Karen Kammann of Lincoln, Nebraska; two sisters-in-law: Jackie Daniels and her husband, Norman of Bloomington, Nebraska; and Connie Siebrass and her husband, Dan of North Platte, Nebraska; one brother-in-law: Bob Hogeland and his wife, Janis of Kearney, Nebraska; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives, Marlin's ten half siblings, and many friends.
There will be no memorial book signing or visitation. The family is honoring his wish for cremation.
A memorial has been established in Marlin's honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
