Marlin G Upthagrove

Funeral Services for Marlin G. Upthagrove will be conducted from the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska on Monday, January 19, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Connie Karr, officiating. Interment will be in the Highland Cemetery at Bertrand, Nebraska.

Marlin Gerald Upthagrove, 69 years of age, of Bertrand, passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at the Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings, Nebraska. He was born July 1, 1939 at Bertrand, the sixth of nine children of Russell and Myrtle (Moser) Upthagrove. Marlin received his education at Bertrand, graduating from Bertrand High School with the class of 1957.

On June 9, 1961 he was united in marriage to Donna Rae DuPree and to this union four sons were born: Steven, Brent, Todd and Byron. Marlin worked in construction with his father, Russell throughout Central Nebraska and was also employed by several farmers in the surrounding area. He was employed by Becton-Dickinson in Holdrege for over twenty-three years prior to his retirement due to his failing health.

He loved to play cards, enjoyed woodworking, loved to tinker with lawn mowers and was an avid sports fan. Marlin enjoyed camping and fishing with his family. Marlin was loved by all who knew him, and he was blessed with many friendship bonds through the years. First and foremost in his life was his family.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Donna of Bertrand; four sons: Steven Upthagrove of Kearney, Nebraska, Brent Upthagrove and his wife, Diann, Todd Upthagrove and Byron Upthagrove and his wife, Julie all of Holdrege; eleven grandchildren: Jackie Sevdy and her husband, Jacob, Rose Moore and her husband, Tim, Brandon Upthagrove, Kristina Cates and her husband, James, McKenzie Grimm and her husband, Jesse, Tori Coulter, Blake Upthagrove, Jessica Upthagrove, Ashley Upthagrove, Kelsi Upthagrove, and Paige Upthagrove; one great-grandson, Samuel Moore; two brothers: Bob Upthagrove of Holdrege; Allan Upthagrove and his wife, Karen of Holdrege; one sister, Betty Brown and her husband, Leonard of Falls River, Kansas; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one great-grandson, Carson Carver Moore; four sisters: Gayle Merrit, Lenore Duffy, Reta Aldinger and Ramona Upthagrove in infancy; two brothers: Ramon Upthagrove and Marlin's twin brother, Marvin Upthagrove.

Marlin will lie in state at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Sunday, January 18, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

A memorial has been established in his memory and is kindly suggested to the Bertrand Fire and Rescue.
