Due to inclement weather, the Celebration of Life Service for Marlys M. Harris has been rescheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Reverend Kenton Birtell, officiating. Interment will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege following the services.
Marlys Marie Harris, 80 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Monday, January 9, 2017 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Marlys was born December 29, 1936 in Holdrege, the eldest of three daughters born to Harold P. and Dorothy I. (Regelin) Johnson. She was baptized and confirmed in Holdrege at the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. She received her education from Holdrege Public Schools and graduated from Holdrege High School with the class of 1955. She then pursued higher education at the Colorado Women's College in Denver, Colorado, where she graduated with an Associate of Arts Degree in Secretarial Studies in 1957.
On June 1, 1958 she was united in marriage to James Ansylan Harris at the Tyndall Air Force Base in Panama City, Florida. Due to Jim's naval service to his country, they were transferred to several Air Force Bases until 1963. In 1965 the couple moved to Torrance, California. Marlys held several positions as a secretary throughout the years. Her last position was with the Torrance City Hall, where she was employed for 17 ½ years prior to her retirement on February 2, 2002. In 2004 they returned home to Holdrege, Nebraska to be near family. On July 9, 2004 she was preceded in death by her husband, Jim.
Marlys was a member of the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church and loved to play the piano in her spare time. The little things in life; meant a lot to Marlys. Being back home, close to her sisters and their families fulfilled her life the last twelve years.
Besides her parents and her husband; she was preceded in death by her sister, Karen Larson.
She leaves to celebrate her life; her sister, Marvel Nelson and her husband, Vernon James of rural Holdrege; brother-in-law, Dennis Larson of rural Bertrand; her special nieces and nephews: Kevin Arehart and his wife, Sandy; Kurt Arehart; Kyle Arehart and his wife, Ashley; Keri Berry and her husband, Patrick; Sherri Lindstrom; Heidi Amelang and her husband, Ed; and Chris Nelson and his special friend, Katie Sindt; and a host of cousins, great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation had been rescheduled for Wednesday, January 18, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in Marlys' honor and kindly suggested to the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. Expressions of caring and kindness can be sent to the family at www.nelsonbauerfh.com
