Memorial Services for Marlys M. Nelson will be conducted from the Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Monday, March 31, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend David Sites and Intern Nathan Metzger, officiating. Private family interment will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege prior to the services.

Marlys Marie Nelson, 73 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Marlys was born December 27, 1934 at Holdrege, the eldest of three children born to Floyd and Grace (Anderson) Holen. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bertrand, Nebraska. Marlys received her primary education from District #33 north of Bertrand and graduated from Bertrand High School with the class of 1952. She then pursued higher education at Luther College at Wahoo, Nebraska to receive her teaching credentials. Marlys then taught school at Axtell, Nebraska for several years.

On June 28, 1959 she was united in marriage to Ron Nelson at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bertrand. The couple made their home in Axtell, where they both taught school prior to moving to Holdrege in 1962. While in Holdrege, Marlys continued to teach as a substitute for many years.

Marlys was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church, where she was active with the choir and taught Sunday school for many years.

She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Ron of Holdrege; one sister, Phyllis Silverberg and her husband, Norris of Holdrege; one brother, Kent Holen of Holdrege; five nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law, Carol Dahlgren.

Marlys will lie in state at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege for memorial book signing on Sunday, March 30, 2008 from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

A memorial has been established in her memory and kindly suggested to Bethel Lutheran Church, Phelps County Community Foundation or The Tassel.
