Marlys Waldo

A Funeral Service for Marlys J. Waldo will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at the Republican City United Methodist Church in Republican City, Nebraska with Pastor Seong Lee officiating.

Marlys Jean Waldo, 84 years of age, of Republican City, passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at Parsons House – Assisted Living in Omaha, Nebraska. Marlys was born on December 9, 1940, in Holdrege, Nebraska, the eldest of two children, born to Fred and Doris (Scott) Hauserman. She was raised near Huntley, Nebraska and received her education from Huntley Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1959.  She pursued higher education from Nebraska Wesleyan University, where she received Bachelor's Degrees in English and Secondary Education in 1963. Following her education, she moved to Denver, Colorado.

On March 8, 1964, Marlys was united in marriage to Jerry B. Waldo. The couple moved to Republican City and Marlys taught at Naponee Public Schools. She later began working at the Commercial State Bank in Republican City, which the Waldo family has owned and operated since 1903.

Jerry and Marlys were blessed with four children: Dwight, Julie, Christy, and Michael.  The family continued to make their home in Republican City, where they enjoyed the outdoor activities of hunting, fishing, and recreating on Harlan County Reservoir.

She was a faithful member of the Republican City United Methodist Church, where she served as Treasurer for many years and also served with the United Methodist Women. Marlys was also a member of P.E.O. and area book clubs.

Marlys enjoyed planting flowers and gardening, was an avid reader and quilter, and loved the company of her cats. But most of all, she cherished the time spent with her Grandkids. Marlys was always available to lend a helping hand to those in need and a highlight of her life was a mission trip to Kenya, Africa, where she had an opportunity to serve others.

We will miss her generous, loving heart, her contagious smile, and her holiday meals, especially her cherry pie and homemade rolls.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Fred Hauserman in 1995; and Doris Hauserman in 2006; her in-laws: Haskell Waldo in 1994; and Cartha Waldo in 1998; her husband, Jerry Waldo in 2020; and a sister-in-law, Jane Waldo Reck in 2023.

Marlys is survived by her children:  Dwight (Missy) Waldo of Republican City;  Julie (Joe) Waldo of Salt Lake City, Utah; Christy (John) Ferguson of Omaha; and Michael (Alana) Waldo of Holdrege; six grandchildren:  Abigail and Jack Waldo; John and James Ferguson; and Cameron and Emilia Waldo; her brother, Larry (Deborah) Hauserman of Golden, Colorado; a brother-in-law, Gerald Reck of Bellevue, Nebraska; along with nieces; nephews; extended family; and many friends.
