A memorial service for Martha A. Tweedy will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastor Chuck Peek officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date at the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege.
Martha Alice Ballantyne Boyd Tweedy, 96 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away, on July 1, 2023, at Holdrege Memorial Homes in Holdrege. Martha was born in Aberdeen, South Dakota on January 12, 1927, the youngest of two daughters, born to Madison and Sarah (Boulden) Ballantyne. Her father, Madison, was a specialist agent for the FBI, and they lived in many cities. Martha was baptized at age 4 at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, California. When her paternal grandmother needed additional care, Martha's father retired and they moved to Lead, South Dakota to help take care of her. She graduated from Lead High School, with the class of 1944. Martha pursued higher education at the University of Wyoming in Laramie and received a bachelor's degree in Social Studies and a minor in music in 1948. While attending the University of Wyoming, she met her first husband, Jack Wesley Boyd, of Riverton, Wyoming, and to this union, two children were born, Deborah Ann and Kevin Madison.
The family moved from Torrington, Wyoming to Holdrege in 1956 when Jack became the general manager of Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District and later Martha worked there for 20 years as the receptionist and secretary to the assistant to the general manager. Jack died in June of 1968 at the age of 39. Martha continued to live in Holdrege where she met and married Roger Tweedy in 1983 at St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church. Martha welcomed Roger's three children; Tammy, Sandy, and Patsy.
Martha enjoyed singing as well as traveling with Roger. She was a member of Chapter, H, PEO for 50 years and St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church where she was active for many years.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Jack W. Boyd; her parents; Madison and Sarah Ballantyne; and her sister, Jean Weber.
Martha is survived by her husband, Roger Tweedy of Holdrege; two children: Deb Erickson and her husband, Frank of Holdrege; Kevin Boyd and his wife, Mariann of Gothenburg, Nebraska; three step-children: Tamra Slater and her husband, Bill of Doniphan, Nebraska; Sandy Artz and her husband, Jeff of Alma, Nebraska; and Patsy Thorell and her husband, Brian of Hays, Kansas; six grandchildren: Lance (Brianne) Erickson; Peter (Stephanie) Erickson; Stephanie Erickson; Gretchen (Matt) Philpot; Molly Boyd; and Aaron Boyd; five step-grandchildren: Zach (Sarah) Artz; Alex (Jess) Artz; Abby Artz; Jake (Sidney) Thorell; and Peyton Thorell; eight great-grandchildren: Jack Philpot; Gwen Philpot; Barrett Erickson; Ellia Erickson; Esme` Erickson; Aiden Erickson; Henry Artz; and Luca Longacre; along with other relatives, and friends.
There will not be a visitation or memorial book signing. The family is honoring her wish for cremation.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Martha's honor, and kindly suggested to the Nebraska Prairie Museum or to the Tassel in Holdrege.
