Funeral services for Martika A. Johnson will be conducted from the Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Monday, March 28, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Doug Reed and Pastor Murray Jones, officiating. Interment will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege.

Martika Ashley Johnson, 20 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska after a life-long battle with Cystic Fibrosis. Martika was born June 13, 1990 at Holdrege, the daughter of Donald G. Peterson and Valerie R. Johnson.

She received her education at Holdrege, graduating from Holdrege High School with the class of 2009. Following her education she was employed as a waitress at the Speakeasy and then was the assistant manager for Family Dollar.

On August 21, 2010 she was united in marriage to her soul mate, Kirby Gene Johnson and they made their home in Holdrege. The couple loved the outdoors, including camping, fishing and riding motorcycles. Martika enjoyed playing pool, and was a member of the Tuesday Night Pool League for the Cheex Team. This past year, she earned the most improved player. She loved spending time with her family. Martika had a special place in her heart for animals, especially her dog, Blue.

She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents and her aunt, Teri Peterson as a child.

Martika leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Kirby Johnson of Holdrege; her mother, Valerie Meyers of Holdrege; her father, Don Peterson of Holdrege; her grandparents: Dwight and Deno Peterson of Holdrege, Dave Johnson of Holdrege and Margaret Duffey of Bertrand, Nebraska; half-brother, Stephen Johnson of Holdrege; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Jeff and Pamela Johnson of Holdrege; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 27, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in her memory and will be designated at a later date.
