Heaven welcomed Marva Teter on Monday, November 5, 2007 at the age of 77 years, 1 month and 27 days. Marva was born on September 9, 1930 to Lark L. and Nellie "Marie" (Premer) Moore in their two room house, seven miles southeast of Bartley, Nebraska. Her birth was assisted by "Aunt" Josie Whalen, who was not actually a relative. The house was later enlarged to become a two-car garage and moved one mile over. She attended country school as a child and graduated from Bartley High School with the class of 1948. During her youth, she was active in Methodist Youth Fellowship and cheerleading, as well as helping with many chores essential to life on the farm.
Marva married John Teter, her childhood sweetheart in a double ceremony with her sister and brother-in-law on January 29, 1950. She and John remained true partners and soul mates in every endeavor. Their marriage was an inspiration to many couples throughout the years. They were blessed with three daughters: Lea Ann, Shirley and Ivy.
Marva worked in the Red Willow County Treasurers Office until John was inducted into the United States Marine Corps in 1952. Marva made a loving home for her family. She enjoyed sewing and cooking. Anyone who came into Marva's home felt the warmth and welcoming she provided. Many wonderful things came form Marva's kitchen. Her pecan rolls met rave reviews from all who were fortunate enough to taste them.
When her children were in school, Marva took a job in the office at Kingsley Lumber Co., where she retired in 1993. She and John loved spending time together, especially traveling in their camper. They enjoyed visiting with relatives and looked forward to time with their six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Marva was confirmed in the Bartley Methodist Church and has been a member of the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege for over 40 years. Her greatest pleasure was her family. She was a beloved wife, loving mother and dear friend.
She leaves to mourn her passing: her husband, John of Holdrege; two daughters: Shirley Krysl and her husband, Don of Omaha, Nebraska and Ivy Hanson and her husband, Tim of Kearney, Nebraska; six grandchildren: Stephanie Totten and her husband, Erik of Omaha, Robert Krysl and his wife, Ellie of Boston, Jon Hertz of Ames, Iowa, James Hertz and his wife, Angela of Des Moines and Ben and Joe Hanson of Kearney; two great-grandchildren: Sylvia and Henry; one brother, Larry Moore and his wife, Mary of Denver; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Lea Ann Hertz; and sister, Donna Burke.
