A Funeral Service for Marvel D. Nelson will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Holdrege, Nebraska, with Reverend Kenton Birtell officiating. Interment will follow at the Moses Hill Cemetery, rural Loomis, Nebraska.

Marvel Diane Nelson, 79 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at Christian Homes Care Community at Holdrege. Marvel was born on March 22, 1946, in Holdrege, the youngest of three daughters born to Harold P. and Dorothy I. (Regelin) Johnson. She was baptized and confirmed in Holdrege at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. Marvel received her education from Holdrege Public Schools.
Following her education, Marvel began being Vernon's keeper and life-long companion, you rarely saw one, without the other.
Marvel was united in marriage to Vernon James Nelson on September 28, 1963, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. They were blessed with three children: Sherri, Heidi, and Chris.
Marvel enjoyed taking care of Vernon and her family. She also enjoyed cooking and planning meals, Master of feeding the farm crews for decades, reading the Bible, traveling the world, and she loved to play the guitar for church. Marvel loved that she got to see her grandchildren almost daily. She will be remembered for her hospitality and was a true source of encouragement for others.
Marvel was a lifetime member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, taught Sunday school for years and was proud of the fact that her mother was a Charter member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. The couple spent a huge part of their life evangelizing, and it was the highlight of their life! She was sure to remind her children nightly by asking "If you were to die tonight, do you know where you're going? And how do you know this is true?".
Marvel was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters: Marlys Harris and husband, James; and Karen Larson; and a brother-in-law: Johnny Nelson.
She leaves to celebrate her life: her husband, Vernon James Nelson of Christian Homes; three children: Sherri Lindstrom of rural Holdrege; Heidi Amelang and her husband, Ed of rural Holdrege, Nebraska; and Chris Nelson of rural Holdrege, Nebraska; six grandchildren: Tyler Lindstrom and wife, Ashley of Holdrege; A.J. Lindstrom and his wife, Jenna of rural Loomis; Parker Lindstrom and girlfriend Jordan Colling of Holdrege; Chloe Dorenkamp and husband, Isaac of Omaha, Nebraska; Chelsea Amelang of Holdrege; and Bennett Nelson of Holdrege; four great-grandchildren: Brigham and Beau; and Oliver and Andi Jean ; three sisters-in-law: Barbara Clinch and her husband, John of Grand Island, Nebraska; Julie Nelson and her husband, James of Loomis; and Evie Nelson of Holdrege; a brother-in-law: Wesley Nelson and his wife, Connie of Holdrege; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials in Marvel's honor are kindly suggested to: Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, the Nebraska Prairie Museum, or the Christian Charity Fund.
