Funeral Services for Marvin L. Todd will be conducted from the St. John's Lutheran Church in Oxford, Nebraska on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Dale Hedstrom, officiating. Interment with Military Honors will be in the Oxford Cemetery.
Marvin Leslie Todd, 78 years of age, of Oxford, passed away on Friday, July 18, 2008 at the Holdrege Memorial Homes in Holdrege, Nebraska, following a brief battle with cancer. Marvin was born July 15, 1930 in Ida, Michigan, the only child of Leslie Lyle and Mae Dorothy (Billmyer) Todd. He received his elementary education at a country school near Ida, Michigan. He attended high schools in Monroe, MI, Albany, TX and graduated from Minden High School in Minden, Nebraska with the class of 1948. He then attended Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, Illinois.
Marvin was united in marriage on October 1, 1950 to Juleen Rose Kroeger. They made their home in Minden and to this union one daughter was born, Teresa. Marvin was inducted into the United States Army on February 15, 1952 and served his country during the Korean War until his honorable discharge on January 8, 1954. After he returned from the war, the family moved to Oxford, Nebraska. Marvin was employed as a radio equipment technician for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. and later the company changed to U.S. West and then Qwest. He continued his employment for 39 years until his retirement on December 28, 1990. His wife, Juleen passed away on March 25, 2003. On June 5, 2004 he was united in marriage to Lucille 'Lucy' M. Henry and the couple continue to reside in Oxford.
Marvin enjoyed boating, water skiing, camping and traveling. He loved to travel and was fortunate to have had the chance to travel to Europe twice and also Alaska. He was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Oxford, where he served as a Trustee for thirty years, member of the C.W.A. –Communication Workers of America and member of the American Legion and V.F.W.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Lucy of Oxford; his daughter, Teresa Leising and her husband, Phillip of Arapahoe, Nebraska; ten grandchildren: Rachel Soo and her husband, Wai-Kin of Irvine, CA, Joshua Leising and his wife, Valerie of Holbrook, NE, Angela Leising of Athens, OH and Frank, Peter, Emily, Amber, Barbara, Mary and Olivia Leising, all of Arapahoe; step-daughter, Dawn Sladky and her husband, Jim of Oxford; step-son, Robert Henry of Indianola, NE; three step-grandchildren: Joshua Henry of Colorado Springs, CO, Jeffrey and Jennifer Sladky both of Oxford and other relatives and friends. Besides his first wife, Juleen, he was preceded in death by his parent and sister-in-law, Evelyn Myers and her husband, Clyde.
Marvin will lie in state at the Mitchell-Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Oxford on Monday, July 21, 2008 from 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. The casket will be open at the funeral home, and closed at the church.
A memorial has been established in his memory and kindly suggested to the St. John's Lutheran Church or American Cancer Society.
