Celebration of Life Services for Mary Lou (Burgeson) Payton will be held on Friday, July 27, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastor Murray Jones officiating. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date.

Mary L. Payton, 72 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at her home in Holdrege. She was born on April 8, 1946, at Holdrege, the fifth of six children born to Roy M. and Mary Ann (Hilsabeck) Burgeson. She received her education in Holdrege and graduated from Holdrege High School with the class of 1964.

On September 29, 1977, Mary was united in marriage to James C. Payton and to this union one daughter was born, Sara. The family made their home in Holdrege, where Mary held factory positions and was employed in nursing care. James and Mary divorced in 1995.

Mary was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Holdrege and was baptized on April 7, 1947. She was an avid "yard-saler" and was always looking for a treasure or a bargain.  Her favorite moments were spending time with her daughter, grandson and friends.

Besides her parents; Mary was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Jim Henry.

She is survived by; her daughter, Sara Payton and her significant other, Brian Boettcher of Holdrege; a sister, Karen Henry of Seward, Nebraska; four brothers: Mike Burgeson and his wife, Connie of Holdrege; Dave Burgeson of Wamego, Kansas; Jim Burgeson and his wife, Joyce of Arnold Park, Iowa, John Burgeson and his wife, Karen of Ft. Collins, Colorado; one grandson, Lucas Boettcher of Holdrege; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

There will be no visitation as the family is honoring her wish for cremation.

In honor of Mary's love of animals, memorials are kindly suggested to one of the local veterinarian clinics to help with extra love and continued care.
