Mary Elizabeth Tringe, 95 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska (formerly of Norwich, Connecticut) died on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at the Holdrege Memorial Homes. Mary was born September 8, 1913 at Norwich, the third of eight children of Antonio and Maria (Colletti) Cellucci.

She was married to William A. Tringe and to this union, three children were born: Patricia, Lillian, and William, Jr.

She loved to work with her hands, hooking and braiding rugs, crocheting and she was also an avid vegetable gardener. She enjoyed canning vegetables and making jams and jellies from wild grapes, elderberries and chokecherries. She worked at a textile mill for several years before she was married. After marriage she was a homemaker and enjoyed raising her children. She was an active member of the PTA at the Greeneville Grammar School, the Mount Carmel Society at St. Patrick's Cathedral and the Rosary Society at St. Mary's Church. When she returned to work her most enjoyable years were spent at the Navick Brothers' Leader Store and she worked there until she retired at age 86. She enjoyed working with customers and with all of the Navick family who worked at the store.

She also enjoyed cooking and her many unique recipes for Italian rolled cookies, anise cookies and torpedo sauce are still prized and used today by her friends and family.

As much as she enjoyed her extended family she also enjoyed time with her many friends.

After she moved from the family home on Pratt Street, Mary lived in Bartlett, New Hampshire with her daughter, Lil Tringe and Lorraine Kirkpatrick, then in Blue Diamond, Nevada with her daughter Pat and Herman van Betten. In 2005 she lived in assisted living at Holdrege Memorial Homes near her son Bill and Sheila Tringe.

Mary is survived by her three children: Patricia van Betten of Blue Diamond, Nevada, Lillian Tringe of Bartlett, New Hampshire, and William Tringe and his wife, Sheila of Holdrege; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Loretta Shillo; a brother-in-law, Michael Luty and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

There will be no visitation as the family is honoring her wish for cremation.
