Maurice Lynn "Moose" Knutson, 83 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Thursday, November 25, 2021, at the Clarkson Care Center in Clarkson, Nebraska, surrounded by his daughters. He was born on August 30, 1938, in Furnas County, Nebraska, the fifth of six children, born to Ward Glenn and Thelma Magdalena (Gueck) Knutson. He received his primary education at Wilsonville, Nebraska, and then attended school in Hendley; Reynolds; Bruning; Wisner; Inman; Brunswick; and Axtell.
On February 10, 1962, he was united in marriage to Roberta Schobourg at the First Presbyterian Church in Holdrege. This union was blessed with two daughters: Karen and Kirsten. The family made their home in Holdrege, where Moose worked for C. Leslie Carlson, as a farm hand and eventually, Mr. Carslon helped him to begin his own farming operation. The family moved to a farm near Axtell, where Moose enjoyed the labor of the land until his retirement in 2003. He was also a proud DeKalb Dealer in the 1970's and 1980's. Following retirement, Moose and Roberta moved to Holdrege.
Moose was baptized at the Baptist Church in Wilsonville as a young boy. He and Roberta were faithful members of the First Presbyterian Church of Holdrege and First Presbyterian Church of Axtell. Moose served on various committees and as a Deacon at both churches. He was also a member of the Prairie Schooners.
Moose was a sports enthusiast! He played first base on baseball and fast-pitch softball teams until the age of 55 years and played in 5 national masters. He also enjoyed all Husker Athletics and the Kansas City Royals. When he wasn't watching sports, Moose also loved to go fishing. Most of all, Moose left a legacy of hard work and God's love to his family and friends.
Besides his parents, Maurice was preceded in death by, his wife, Roberta; two brothers: Marvin Knutson; and Noel Knutson and his wife, Pat; one sister, Norma Bickett and her husband, Virgil; sister-in-law, Gladys Knutson; and two nieces: Patricia Estill; and Rebecca Estill Brown.
Maurice is survived by his two daughters: Karen Wasko and her husband, Todd of Clarkson, Nebraska; and Kirsten Stoll of Lincoln, Nebraska; two grandsons: Blake Jacobs and his wife, Christina, and their son, Rivers; and Grant Stoll, all of Lincoln; one brother, Neil Knutson and his wife, Joyce of Centennial, Colorado; one sister, Sharon Estill and her husband, Russell of North Platte, Nebraska; a brother-in-law, Gene Schobourg and his wife, Orpha Gail of Frederick, Colorado; a sister-in-law, Jayne Eshelman of Denver, Colorado; along with many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
There will be no memorial book signing, visitation, or viewing. The family has honored his wish for cremation.
A memorial has been established in Moose's honor, and kindly suggested to the Axtell Ball Association; or the First Presbyterian Church of Holdrege or First Presbyterian Church of Axtell.
