A Celebration of Life Service for Maurice L. "Bud" Mondt will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastor Jeff Bell officiating.

Maurice Lavern "Bud" Mondt, 57 years of age, of Funk, Nebraska, passed away on Monday, October 4, 2021, at his home. Bud was born on January 21, 1964, in Holdrege, to Maurice Lavern "Curly" and Ellen (Flanagan) Mondt.  He attended Holdrege Public Schools, graduating from Holdrege High School with the class of 1982. Bud lived in Holdrege until moving to Funk in the 90's.

He met his best friend Michelle Knudsen Skow in 2009 and they were married on November 14, 2014.

Bud worked for and apprenticed under Dave Sanders and learned the fine art of gunsmithing and restoration. Bud went on to own and operate his own business, South Central Gunsmithing in which he was a master craftsman and was known nationwide for his expertise and knowledge of guns. While owning his own business, Bud also worked for Central Nebraska Public Power for 27 years.

Bud continued his business after retirement as well as his lifelong hobbies of all forms of hunting but his passion was duck hunting with his well trained beloved black labs.  He also enjoyed fishing and restoring his high school 1968 Chevelle.

He mentored many individuals in his love of guns as to where to find the ducks, tracking deer, down to the field dressing as well as the sportsmanship involved.

Bud was a lifelong member and advocate of the NRA, Pheasants Forever, and very involved in the Youth Mentor Hunt each year.  He joined the Board of the Village of Funk in November of 2009 and was elected Mayor in December of 2016.

Bud was preceded in death by, his parents.

He leaves to mourn his passing; his wife, Michelle Mondt; his four children: Bobbie Mondt (Mike Streeter); Mallorie Mondt; Garret Skow (Asia Arredondo); Max Skow (Baylie); three grandchildren: Samantha Roach; Baron Streeter; Dante Skow; sister, Linda Morin (Jeff); brother, Doug Mondt (Dawn); brother-in-law, Chris Knudsen (Loni); along with a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family has chosen cremation.  There will be no visitation or viewing.

A memorial has been established in Bud's honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
