Graveside Services for Maurice L. Nelson will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege, Nebraska with Reverend Gene Layne officiating.

Funeral Services will be held at the Trinity United Methodist Church, in Denver, Colorado on April 17, 2016 at 2:00 p.m.

Maurice L. Nelson, 81years of age, of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, (formerly of Holdrege), passed away Sunday, April 10, 2016, at his home.  He was born on February 20, 1935 in Kearney, Nebraska to Roy and Ruth (Soderholm) Nelson. He was raised on the home place farm near Holdrege and was confirmed at Emmaus Evangelical Church in rural Funk, Nebraska. He attended Holdrege Public Schools and graduated with the class of 1953. He then pursued higher education at Nebraska State Teachers College at Kearney and the University of Northern Colorado at Greeley.  Maurice taught high school English and Drivers' Education in the Denver area.

On July 18, 1965, he was united in marriage to Joanne Sanders in Harlowton, Montana. The couple were blessed with two children:  Elizabeth Jo-Ruth and Mark William Maurice.

The Nelsons were active members of Trinity United Methodist Church in Denver and participated in the Denver Swedish Club and the Rocky Mountain Theater Organ Society.

Along with traveling, Maurice enjoying playing the piano, especially church hymns, letter-writing, collecting family history, scrapbooking, and antiquing. His passions were enjoying his two grandsons: Declan and Hudson, and helping others.

Maurice is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Joanne; daughter, Elizabeth Dillon and her husband, Angus and grandsons Declan Dillon and Hudson Dillon; son, Mark Nelson and his wife, Monica; brother-in-law, Jim Sanders and his wife, Pat; niece, Katie Downing and her husband, Nathan, and their son, Lucas; nephew, Sean Sanders; along with many close cousins, other relatives and friends.

A memorial has been established in Maurice's honor and kindly suggested to the Emmaus Evangelical Church in rural Funk, Nebraska.
