Memorial Services for Maxine K. Miller will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Oxford, Nebraska with Pastor Wes Holen officiating. Private family interment will be held prior to services in the Oxford Cemetery.
Maxine Katherine Miller, of Oxford, passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at the Holdrege Memorial Homes. She was born July 31, 1917, the youngest of five children born to John C. and Louise (Kuhlman) Dietz, near Cambridge, Nebraska in Red Willow County. As a small child, the family relocated to the family farm near Orleans, Nebraska. She received her education at the District #54, southwest of Orleans, through the 8th grade.
On August 3, 1949, she was united in marriage to Claude "Jarvis" Miller at the Methodist Church Chapel in Holdrege. They lived in Garfield County in Washington for a short time and then made their home on the Sanderson Ridge Farm, northwest of Oxford, where they raised their four children: Curtis, Scott Sr., Kathryn and Kristi. Maxine worked beside Jarvis on the farm, where she enjoyed raising their family and helping with the Polled Hereford cattle. In the years to come, the farming operation became a family business and Maxine enjoyed the precious memories of working with her grandson, Scott Jr. and great-grandsons: Logan, Kasey and Garrett. She was preceded in death by Jarvis on May 30, 2005, Maxine then continued to live on the farm with her grandson, Scott Jr. and his family.
Maxine was a faithful member in the Evangelical Free Church in Oxford. She enjoyed reading, especially her Bible and had a passion for music. She loved to play the piano and organ and played at the Christian Church in Edison for several years. Maxine was an avid quilter and also enjoyed crocheting and knitting. Over the years, she made many quilts for her children and grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband, Jarvis; she was preceded in death by her son, Curtis Miller; grandson, Chad Miller; one brother, William Dietz; three sisters: Agnes Schmalken and her husband, John, Doris Grove and her husband, Woodrow and Lillian Ashley and her husband, Lyle.
Maxine is survived by her children: Scott Miller, Sr. of Delta, Colorado, Kathy Marks of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Kristi Fortney and her husband, Robert of Springfield, Missouri; daughter-in-law, Sue Miller of Greeley, Colorado; 8 grandchildren: Scott Miller, Jr. and his wife, Brandy of Oxford, Joshua Miller, Nicholas Miller and his special friend, Nyssa and Brandon Miller and his wife, Becky all of Greeley, Shea Marks and his fiancé, Gerica Hale of Lansing, Michigan, Wayne Rounds and his wife, Brittany of Navarre Beach, Florida and Kenny Rounds and his wife, Staci of Hutchinson, Kansas, Melissa Wooten of Elkhorn, Nebraska; 16 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Honoring Maxine's wishes, a private family visitation will be held.
A memorial has been established in Maxine's honor and kindly suggested to the Oxford Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Unit.
