Funeral Services for Maxine Wilburn will be conducted from the Christian Homes Chapel at Holdrege, Nebraska on Saturday, October 20, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. with Mr. Wayne Carlson, officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery at Beaver City, Nebraska.

Maxine Wilburn, 87 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska (formerly of Beaver City, Nebraska and Mesa, Arizona) passed away on Tuesday, October 16, 2007 at the Christian Homes in Holdrege. Maxine was born June 20, 1920 on a farm south of Beaver City in Furnas County, Nebraska, the youngest of two daughters of Robert and Elsie (Winslow) Carr. She received her education from Beaver City, graduating from Beaver City High School with the class of 1937. Maxine then taught school for several years in rural school Districts #1 and #2 in the Beaver City area.

On June 22, 1941 she was united in marriage to Floyd Wilburn and to this union two children were born: Bob and Becky. While her husband, Floyd was stationed in the Army Air Corps, they began their married life in Denver, CO. Maxine then attended the Barnes School of Commerce from 1941 – 1942. They then moved to Huntington, West Virginia and later Amarillo, Texas. In 1946, they moved to Beaver City to be a partner in a Ford Motor Company dealership. The couple also engaged in the family farming operation. Maxine focused her efforts on raising their children and later was employed by the Furnas County Court House.

In 1976, Maxine and Floyd retired and moved to Leisure World in Mesa, Arizona and enjoyed 24 years of bridge clubs, square dancing, golfing, painting, and entertaining many family and friends. They enjoyed traveling to all of the states in the union in their motor home and travel trailer. In 1994, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd. In 2000, she made her home in Holdrege at Chrisoma West.

Maxine was a lifetime member of the Methodist Church, where she was active in the woman's society and sang in the choir. She was active in Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Matron and part of the Studio Art Club. Maxine was also active as a Boy and Girl Scout leader and belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary.

She leaves to mourn her passing her son, Bob Wilburn and his wife, Donnie of Seattle, Washington; daughter, Becky Williams and her husband, Mike of Holdrege; four grandchildren: John Williams and his wife, Michelle of Holdrege, Jodi Rust and her husband, Jeff of Lincoln, Nebraska, Patrick Wilburn and his wife, Danielle of Seattle and Helene Lhamon and her husband, Dan of Whidbey Island, Washington; eight great-grandchildren: Bailey and Brennan Williams, Emma and Claire Rust, Yvonne and Lyla Wilburn and Caroline and Catherine Lhamon; sister-in-law, Marjorie Jensen and her husband, Jim of Ankeny, Iowa; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Christine Weaver and her husband, Richard.


Visitation with the family greeting friends will be on Friday, October 19, 2007 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska.

A memorial has been established in her memory and will be designated at a later date.
