A private family graveside service for Maynard O. Ross will be held at the Mount Hope Cemetery, at Almena, Kansas with Mr. Gary Jannsen officiating.
Maynard O. Ross, 91 years of age, of Alma, Nebraska, passed away peacefully at the Colonial Villa Good Samaritan Society in Alma, Nebraska, on December 10, 2024. Maynard was born and raised near Almena, Kansas, where he developed a deep love for farming and ranching that lasted throughout his life. As a hardworking farmer and rancher, he took immense pride in the land and animals he cared for. He cherished the farm life and enjoyed raising his family alongside the work that brought him fulfillment. One of Maynard's greatest joys was working alongside his son, Rod, teaching him the valuable lessons of farming and ranching that were passed down through the generations.
In 1952, Maynard married Carol J. Capstick of Almena, Kansas. Together, they built a life on the farm, raising their children and tending to the land. Their partnership was a strong and enduring one, and they continued farming and ranching side by side until their well-earned retirement. In 1988, Maynard and Carol made the decision to move from their beloved family farm in Almena to Alma, Nebraska, where they enjoyed their retirement years. This year, they celebrated an incredible 72 years of marriage on December 10th, a testament to their unwavering love and devotion to each other.
Maynard is survived by his beloved wife, Carol, of their home in Alma; son Rodney and his wife, Tonda Ross of Republican City, Nebraska; son-in-law, Rod Peters of Colby, Kansas; granddaughter, Robin Faber of Colby, Kansas; and great-grandchildren: Kaitlynn Faber of Manhattan, Kansas, and Peyton and Tyler Faber of Colby, Kansas. He is also survived by his sisters: Phyllis Halderman and her husband, Lynn, of Alma, and Loretta Atchison of Phillipsburg, Kansas; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a wide circle of friends who will miss his kind heart and generous spirit.
Maynard was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Elizabeth Ross; his wife's parents, Earl and Florence Capstick; his brother-in-law, Calvin Capstick; his daughter, Rita Peters; his sisters: Wilma Ross and Evelyn Ferguson and her husband, Orville; and his brother-in-law, Gill Atchison.
He was deeply loved by his family, and his absence will be felt by all who knew him.
There will not be a visitation prior to the graveside service. The family has honored Maynard's wish for cremation.
A memorial has been established in Maynard's honor, with contributions kindly suggested to the Harlan County Health System of Alma and the Colonial Villa Good Samaritan Society of Alma.
