Melinda K Weaver

A funeral service for Melinda K. Weaver will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Holdrege, Nebraska, with Rev. Dr. W. Kirwin Stewart Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege.

Melinda Kay Weaver, 64 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at her home. Melinda was born in Alma, Nebraska, on August 18, 1961, the oldest of four children, born to Dale and Marlys (Gorman) Brand. She received her education from Mascot School through fifth grade and then went to Oxford Public School and graduated with the class of 1979. She enjoyed playing sports, participating in volleyball and basketball. Growing up, Melinda sewed and cooked for 4-H. She pursued higher education and received an LPN Degree in Nursing.

Melinda was the ultimate caregiver; she worked at the Nursing Home in Oxford, Phelps Memorial Health Center, High Plains Clinic, and later Heartland Hematology and Oncology. She still receives letters and words of thanks for her care and professionalism from former patients.

On April 18, 1982, Melinda Brand was united in marriage to Mike Vaughn at the First Baptist Church in Oxford, and to this union two children were born: Andrew and Heidi. The couple later divorced.

On April 16, 2011, Melinda was united in marriage to Bart Weaver in their backyard in Holdrege, and the two families became one.

Melinda enjoyed tending to her flowers and watching the Huskers, especially volleyball and baseball. The couple went on many vacations together, especially somewhere with a beach. Family and friends were very important to Melinda; she attended as many activities as she could and made sure to get everyone together whenever possible.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and volunteered for many years and in many different capacities, but most recently as an elder.

Melinda was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Bill and Irene Gorman; paternal grandparents, Harmon and Myrtle Brand; Aunts and Uncles; Dean and Kay Berry; Duane and Ardella Brand; one cousin, Kim Berry; and grandparents-in-law, Bill and Mary Kay Mitchell; uncle-in-law, Larry Weaver.

Melinda is survived by her parents, Dale and Marlys Brand of Oxford; her husband, Bart Weaver of Holdrege; her children: Andrew Vaughn and his wife, Kasey of Nelson, Nebraska; Heidi Fetters and her husband, Jared of Loomis, Nebraska; Brandin Weaver and his wife, Madison of Axtell, Nebraska; Riley Weaver and his wife, Shawna of Funk, Nebraska; Chelsie Weaver and her significant other, Tova of Minden, Nebraska; many grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers: Craig Brand of Oxford; Eric Brand and his wife, Kelli of Oxford; one sister, Staci Stritt and her husband, Matthew of Hastings, Nebraska; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Max and Pam Weaver of Minden; brothers-in-law: Bret Weaver and his wife, Lynette of Axtell; Bert Weaver and his fiancé, Suzanne of Hastings; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

A visitation will be held on Monday, September 8, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in Melinda's honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
