Celebration of Life Service for Merideth "Midge" Johnson will be held on Monday, January 6, 2020 at 2:30 p.m. at the Holdrege Memorial Homes Chapel in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastor Nora Mendyk officiating. Private family inurnment will be held in the Oxford Cemetery at Oxford, Nebraska following the services.
Merideth "Midge" Johnson, 96 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Monday, December 30, 2019 at the Holdrege Memorial Homes. Merideth was born July 22, 1923, on her parent's family farmstead south of the Platte River near Fort Kearney in Kearney County, Nebraska, to Albert Robert and Iantha Lucy (Mott) Laue. She received her primary education from a rural school in Kearney County, and then continued her education at Kearney Public Schools in Kearney, Nebraska, graduating from Kearney High School with the class of 1942. As a teenager, Midge enjoyed performing balancing agility acts at the Buffalo County Fair.
On July 30, 1948, she was united in marriage to Lloyd Tanner Johnson at Oconto, Nebraska, and to this union three children were born: Robert, Sandra, and Julie. The family made their home in Holdrege, where Merideth focused her efforts caring for the needs of the children when they were young. After her children were older, Merideth began providing household duties for several area families until her retirement. This past July, Merideth and Lloyd celebrated their 71 st Wedding Anniversary.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, and in her spare time she enjoyed quilting, baking, and gardening.
Besides her parents; Merideth was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Paul Beckler; four sisters: Rosella Laue; Dorothy Hoffman and her husband, Dick; Alberta Reinhardt and her husband, Kenneth; and Betty Woodcock and her husband, Raymond; and two brothers: Victor Laue; and Donald Laue.
Merideth leaves to celebrate her life; her loving husband, Lloyd T. Johnson of Holdrege; her three children: Robert Johnson and his wife, Guia of Wichita, Kansas; Sandra Beckler of Grass Range, Montana; and Julie McKown and her husband, Alan of Marietta, Georgia; five grandchildren: Jeff Beckler and his wife, Janica of Grass Range; Melissa Conely and her husband, Sean of Wichita; Emily Fernandez-Johnson and her husband, Jorge Fernandez of Omaha, Nebraska; and Dorie McKown and Tanner McKown both of Marietta; three great-grandchildren: Isabella Fernandez-Johnson; Rafael Fernandez-Johnson; and Steven Halvorson; one sister-in-law, Millie Laue of Rapid City, South Dakota; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
There will be no visitation or memorial book signing, the family is honoring her wish for cremation.
A memorial has been established in Merideth's honor, and kindly suggested to the First United Methodist Church of Holdrege or the Holdrege Memorial Homes.
