Merle Michael Anderson, 75 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away, on September 10, 2022, at the CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney, Nebraska. Merle was born in Glens Falls, New York on September 27, 1946, the eighth of ten children, born to Raymond and Pauline Anderson. He received his education from Glens Falls High School.
Merle made his career serving in the United States Navy for 26 years. While active he met Lorraine King and on September 6, 1969, they were united in marriage in Queensbury, New York. The couple was blessed with four children: Merle Jr., Gerad, Robert, and Jennifer. They lived in Glens Falls and later moved to San Diego, California where Merle retired from the Navy in 1992. Following his retirement, they moved to Holdrege, Nebraska.
Merle loved spending time with his family. He helped coach his boy's football and baseball teams and was active with the local Boy Scout Troop. Merle read a lot of westerns and liked to watch movies both in the theatre and at home. Together the couple enjoyed traveling throughout the country.
Merle was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter Jennifer Anderson; three sisters: Patricia; Donna; and Sandy; and three brothers: Raymond; Jim; and Donald.
Merle is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Lorraine Anderson of Holdrege; three children: Merle Anderson Jr. and his wife, Jammie of Holdrege; Gerad Anderson and his wife, Lorissa of Broken Bow, Nebraska; Robert Anderson and his wife, Brandy of Lincoln, Nebraska; one daughter-in-law, Sheila Harouff; 14 grandchildren: Michael; Erik; Cammron; Ashley; Katrina; Jeffery; Elijah; Treanna; Hannah; Shawn; Emma; Kalea; Jonah; Alainey; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Harry; and two sisters: Roberta; and Anita.
A family memorial service for Merle M. Anderson will be held at a later date.
There will be no visitation or memorial book signing, the family is honoring Merle's wish for cremation.
It was his desire to be a tissue donor through the Live on Nebraska organization.
