Michael David "Mike" Herrick, 64 years of age, of Oxford, passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege, Nebraska.
Mike was born September 1, 1954 at the family home in Edison, the youngest of seven children to Dorothy (Stump) Herrick. He received his primary education in Edison until the family moved to Oxford, where he graduated from Oxford High School with the class of 1973. He then pursued higher education, where he received a degree in accounting in Kansas City.
Mike was employed side-by-side with his mother at the Bar-Dee Café. He started washing dishes when the café opened in 1966 then worked as a cook until the café closed in 2003.
Mike had a joy of fishing and watching Husker football games. He also liked to attend Royals baseball games in Kansas City. At family get-togethers you could always find him in the middle of a card game. Mike had a big heart for animals, especially his cats.
He is survived by his siblings: Ortha Noltensmeier and her husband, Clarence of Kearney; and Paul Herrick and his wife, Kathy of Kearney; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Besides his mother; Mike was preceded in death by his stepfather, Victor Kahle, four brothers: Larry Herrick; Dennis Herrick; Edward Herrick; and Chester "Ron" Herrick; and a niece, Misty Dawn Noltensmeier.
A memorial has been established in Mike's honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation. The family is honoring his wish for cremation.
