Celebration of Life Service for Michael L. Peterson will be conducted from the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska on Monday, July 11, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Darrel Wissmann officiating. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
Michael L. Peterson, 57 years of age, of rural Shelton, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at his home southeast of Gibbon, Nebraska, following a courageous battle with cancer. Michael was born June 20, 1959 at Hastings, Nebraska, the youngest of three children. He was born to Harold and Beulah (Anderson) Petersen. Michael received his education from Holdrege Public Schools, and went on to have a career in metal fabrication, welding, and was an excellent machinist.
In 1984, Michael met the love of his life, Gina Sohn and together they raised a daughter, Kerri. They made their family home in Grand Island, Nebraska until moving southeast of Gibbon in 2006. Michael was employed by Hi-tech in Gibbon working in the shop as a welder and machinist until his cancer took over and he could no longer work in 2014.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents: Harold and Beulah Petersen; his uncles: Al Boettcher and Bob Anderson as well as his grandparents; a great-grandson, Wade, and a nephew, Shawn.
He leaves to celebrate his life; his love of 32 years, Gina Sohn of rural Shelton; one daughter, Kerri Bernstrauch and her husband, Michael of Holdrege; one son, Brett Tilson and his wife, Crystal of Holdrege; his 11 grandchildren: Treyten, Kayleb, McKennah, Aryah, Lyric, Tre, Hailey, Daniel, Michaela, Meaghan, and Marissa; two sisters: Tania Beahm and her husband, Larry of Alma, Nebraska and Sonja Hansen and her husband, Richard of Bertrand, Nebraska; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
There will be no visitation, the family is honoring Michael's wish for cremation.
A memorial has been established in Michael's honor and will be designated at a later date.
