Mildred Opal Hunt, of Orleans, passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Society – Colonial Villa in Alma, Nebraska at the age of 96 years, 10 months, and 10 days.  Mildred was born on November 14, 1918 on a farm north of Long Island, Kansas, the second of five children born to John and Gladys (Hall) Vincent.  She received her primary education from the Liberty Rural School and then attended Long Island High School.

On February 18, 1936, she was united in marriage to Charles Francis Hunt and to this union four sons were born: Ronald, Charles, Kirby, and Val.  The family made their home north of Orleans in 1944, where they engaged in farming.  In 1965, they moved into Orleans and operated the Burger Barn.  They owned and operated the Burger Barn until 1978, when Mildred was then employed by the United States Postal Service as a Postal Clerk until her retirement in 1986.

During their retirement, the couple enjoyed traveling. They spent many years wintering in McAllen, Texas, where they made many friendship bonds.  Mildred and Charles traveled to every state except Alaska, but to Mildred, their camping trips to Yellowstone National Park were the trips she treasured most.  Family was the most important thing to Mildred; she especially enjoyed family reunions and singing around the piano.  She loved piecing quilts, which were given to her sons and grandchildren.  Mildred also enjoyed gardening and making ceramics.

Mildred was an active member of the Presbyterian Church in Orleans, where she served as a moderator for the Presbyterian Women.  She was a Charter Member of the Pleasant Ridge Extension Club, Charter Member of the Orleans Civic Club, past President of the Harlan County Extension Club and a member of her local P.E.O. Chapter BW for many years.

Charles preceded her in death on March 22, 1987.  Mildred remained in Orleans until she began to make her home at the Colonial Villa in Alma.

Besides her parents and husband, Charles; Mildred was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Noah Peters; sister, Blanche Dietz and her husband, Louis; brother, Eldon Vincent; sister-in-law, Margaret Vincent; brother-in-law, Ivan "Mike" Hammond; and a host of sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law on the Hunt side of the family.

Mildred leaves to celebrate her life; her four sons:  Ronald Hunt and his wife, Betty of Hildreth, Nebraska, Charles Hunt and his wife, Nancy of Oxford, Nebraska, Kirby Hunt and his wife, Donna of Tekamah, Nebraska and Val Hunt and his wife, Charlene of Orleans; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; sister, Doris Hammond and brother, Dale Vincent both of Long Island; two sisters-in-law:  Arleta Vincent of Norton, Kansas and Virginia Hunt of Beaver City, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
