Mass of Christian Burial for Mildred M. "Millie" Schoneberg will be conducted from St. Mary's Catholic Church in Orleans, Nebraska on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Jamie Hottovy officiating. Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, morning prior to the Mass at the church. Interment will be held in the Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery at Orleans following the services.
Mildred Marie Schoneberg, 92 years of age, of Orleans, passed away on Friday, January 16, 2015 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege, Nebraska. She was born on December 8, 1922 in Beardsley County, Kansas, the seventh of twelve children born to Jared Fremont and Angela Marie (Ankle) Conant. She received her First Communion on April 24, 1932 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Millie received her education from St. Mary's Catholic School and then attended high school at Orleans.
On July 29, 1946, Millie was united in marriage to Glen Harlan Schoneberg at Norton Kansas and the couple was blessed with three children: Ronald, Sandra and Bonnie. Besides being a loving wife and mother, Millie pursued her life's passion as a nurse at the Harlan County Health Center. She worked in various positions including a floor nurse, therapy, central supply and as a recovery nurse. Her motto at the hospital was to "give three hugs a day." After 28 years of nursing, Millie retired in 1997.
Retirement allowed her to spend more time playing bridge, doing crafts and spending time with friends and family. She was long-time member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and also a member of the Altar Society. She was also involved in the Orleans Civic Club, Birthday Club, various bridge clubs, the extension club, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Millie was also a Girl Scout Leader for over 10 years and loved to volunteer at the Colonial Villa. One of Millie's fondest memories was when the couple celebrated their 25 th Wedding Anniversary by renewing their vows at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Orleans.
Besides her parents, Millie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Glen on December 24, 2011; son-in-law, Duane Phinney; four sisters: Marjorie Streff and her husband, Paul, JoAnn Hogeland and her husband, Bob, Irene Godbout and her husband, Ken and Lucille Brown and her husband, Glenn; five brothers: Jared Conant and his wife, Hattie, Willis Conant and his wife, Loretta, Walter Conant and his wife, Katherine "Toots", Glenard Conant and his wife, Arylis, and Richard Conant; and sisters-in-law: Mary Ellen Conant and Alice Conant.
She leaves to mourn her passing; her son, Ronald Schoneberg and his wife, D'Maris of Arapahoe, Nebraska; two daughters: Sandra McManus and her husband, Larry of Edgewood, Washington and Bonnie Phinney of Olympia, Washington; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great granddaughters; two brothers: Donald Conant of Alma, Nebraska and Charles Conant of Boise, Oregon; sister-in-law, Florence Conant of Ontario, Oregon; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Orleans on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
A memorial has been established in Millie's honor and will be designated at a later date.
