Funeral Services for Mildred A. Pfeiffer will be conducted from the St. John's Lutheran Church in Oxford, Nebraska on Thursday, December 2, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Dale Hedstrom, officiating. Interment will be in the Oxford Cemetery.

Mildred A. Pfeiffer, 96 years of age, of Adams, Nebraska (formerly of Oxford) passed away on Monday, November 29, 2010 at the Gold Crest Retirement Center in Adams. Mildred was born March 7, 1914 on the family farm northeast of Oxford in Harlan County, Nebraska, the daughter of Frank and Anna (Wanner) Lueking. She was a lifetime member of the St. John's Lutheran Church, where she was baptized and confirmed.

As a child, Mildred received her primary education at the Laurel Hill District School and then graduated from Oxford High School. She then pursued higher education at the Kearney State Teachers College, where she received her teaching credentials. Mildred then taught in rural schools for five years.

In 1937, she was united in marriage to Clarence F. Pfeiffer. The couple resided in Oxford their entire married life, where Clarence and Mildred operated Clay's Service Station adjacent to their home for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence in 1988. Mildred continued to reside in Oxford until 2007 when she began to make her home at the Gold Crest Retirement Center in Adams.

Mildred enjoyed teaching Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, and was involved in Girl and Boy Scouts while raising their children. She was also involved in the Martha Circle and Mini-Sharing and Mission Sewing at the St. John's Lutheran Church.

Besides taking daily walks, she enjoyed going to the Golden Generation Center to eat lunch and play cards with her friends. Throughout the years, Mildred also loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They will miss her laugh and great sense of humor!

Besides her husband, Clarence and her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Lucille Covey and brother, Bernard Lueking.

She leaves to mourn her passing her three children: Richard Pfeiffer of San Francisco, California, Phyllis Niles and her husband, Ron of Adams, and Carol Toman and her husband, Joe of Clarkson, Nebraska; eight grandchildren: Shawn Ahl and her husband, Brian of Lincoln, Nebraska, Kristi Dorn and her husband, Greg of Filley, Nebraska, Rhonda Niles of Adams, Faron Niles of Adams, Crystal Ernst and her husband, Mark of Clarkson, Rebecca Toman of Lincoln, Racheal Toman of Kearney, Nebraska, and Meredith Toman of Clarkson; eleven great-grandchildren: Brent and Chase Heble, Tandon, Riley and Addison Dorn, Eli and Logan Pelc, Ashton, Carter, and Nevaeh Niles, Briggs Ernst, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Mitchell-Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Oxford.

A memorial has been established in her memory and will be designated at a later date.
