Funeral Services for Mildred L. Sall will be conducted from the Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Tom Wilson, officiating. Interment will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege.
Mildred Lucile Sall, 93years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2011 at the Christian Homes Care Community at Holdrege. Mildred was born October 27, 1918 near Spencer in Boyd County, Nebraska, the fifth of eight children born to William W. and Ada Pearl (Whitehorn) Braithwait. Mildred received her education from Spencer Public Schools, graduating from Spencer High School with the class of 1936. After high school, Mildred taught school in Boyd County for a year and then taught in Holt County, Nebraska for a year as well.
In the spring of 1939, Mildred relocated to Gresham, Oregon, where she was employed at a box factory. On December 14, 1939 she was united in marriage to Melvin John Sall at Vancouver, Washington. To this union three sons were born: Dale, Robert and Gary. The couple resided in Oregon until 1946, when they moved to Holdrege. While the boys were young, Mildred's complete focus and devotion was being a Mother. Later in years, she was employed part-time at Holdrege Floral and then by Becton-Dickinson in Holdrege as an Inspector from 1968 until her retirement in 1982.
Mildred and Melvin loved to travel, which included all 50 states. She was preceded in death by Melvin on February 19, 1998. Mildred was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church, where she was active with Women's Circles. She also enjoyed quilting and many friendship bonds were formed through the years in quilting organizations. Through the years, Mildred was also a member of The Grange-National Farmers Organization, a member of the Lake Friendship Club and participated in several card clubs.
Mildred leaves to mourn her passing her two sons: Dale Sall and his wife, Diana of Holdrege, and Robert Sall and his wife, Suzanne of Omaha, Nebraska; five grandsons: Dr. Jeffrey Sall and his wife, Susan of San Francisco, California, John Sall and his wife, Ruth of Abington, Pennsylvania, Robert D. Sall and his partner, John Cunningham of Chicago, Illinois, Mark Sall and his wife, Jennifer of Omaha and Michael Sall and his wife, Dana of Omaha; nine great-grandchildren: Lillian, Miriam, Ruby, Mila, Tayte, Drew, Lucy, Parker, and Cooper; brother-in-law, Gust Sall of Holdrege; sister-in-law, Lorraine Braithwait of Norfolk, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Besides her husband, Melvin, she was preceded in death by her son, Gary Sall in 1969; three brothers: Dale and his wife, Velva, Howard and his wife, Marjorie, and Ronald Braithwait; four sisters: Macel Kirwan and her husband, Raymond, Dorothy Darnell and her husband, Arden "Mick", Aura Mattson and her husband, Matt and Maxine Bjornsen and her husband, Lee; brothers-in-law: David Sall and his wife, Lillian, Alfred Sall and his wife, Lorraine and Lloyd Sall and his wife, Betty; and sisters-in-law: Phyllis Sall and Alvera Anderson and her husband, Laurence.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 26, 2011 from 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in Mildred's memory and will be designated at a later date.
