Funeral Services for Minnie M. Mintzmyer will be held on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Stamford, Nebraska with Reverend Thalia Woodworth officiating. Interment will be held at the Orleans Cemetery at Orleans, Nebraska following the service.
Minnie Marie (Schmalken) Mintzmyer, 103 years of age of Alma, Nebraska, formerly of Orleans, passed away on Friday, June 22, 2018 at Good Samaritan Society-Colonial Villa in Alma. Minnie was born on September 21, 1914, in Harlan County, Nebraska, the second of three children born to William Louis and Mary Marie (Lehmann) Schmalken.
Minnie attended school in Furnas County at District 10 School until the eighth grade.
On November 8, 1930 Minnie was united in marriage to Howard A. Shaver in Phillipsburg, Kansas. The couple lived in the Stamford area, until Howard passed away on March 22, 1958.
On December 22, 1963, Minnie was united in marriage to Maurice Harold Mintzmyer in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Stamford. Maurice later passed away on January 12, 1996.
Minnie enjoyed cooking as was shown through her many years serving the community of Stamford as a local cook for the Stamford School District. Minnie loved to quilt, she hand-quilted many of the quilts for the church in Stamford. She pieced many quilt tops for Lutheran World Relief. While at the Villa, Minnie was known for her beautiful smile, and kind heart to everyone that she met; she loved to take care of others.
Minnie was baptized as an infant and confirmed in 1920 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Stamford, where she was a lifelong member. She was a member of the women's ELCA group at her church, and enjoyed her time spent volunteering there.
Besides her parents and her husbands: Howard Shaver and Maurice Mintzmyer; she was preceded in death: by her girl, Willa Drake; three brothers: Ora, Lee, and Louis; sisters: Vera, Ruby, Helen, Dorothy and Viola; two sisters-in-law: Violet White and Fern Schmalken; and brothers-in-law, Darrel Hinze, Gerald Martin, Floyd Covey, Bryan Martin and Phillip Dietz.
Minnie leaves to celebrate her life: her sister-in-law, Deloris White of Lexington, Nebraska; her girls: Sharon Harm and Susan Bose; her nieces: Marilyn Ross, Ellen Rademacher and Doris Wentling; along with a host of many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Stamford with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
A memorial has been established in Minnie's honor and kindly suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church in Stamford.
