Funeral Services for Mona E. Detenbeck will be conducted from the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska on Friday, May 16, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with Mr. Wayne Carlson and Chaplain Jean Clayton, officiating. Interment will be in the Highland Cemetery at Bertrand, Nebraska.
Mona Elberta Detenbeck, 99 years of age, of Holdrege (formerly of Bertrand, Nebraska) passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at the Holdrege Memorial Homes. Mona was born April 30, 1909 on the family farm in Gosper County, northwest of Bertrand, the daughter of Elbert H. and Christina (Fox) Nutzman. She received her elementary education at a rural school and graduated from Bertrand High School with the class of 1927.
On December 22, 1934 she was united in marriage to Archie Clyde Detenbeck and they made their home in the Bertrand and Smithfield, Nebraska area. In 1953 they moved to Cheyenne, WY until returning to Bertrand in 1973. Mona was preceded in death by her husband, Archie on March 3, 1991. In the fall of 1997, Mona moved to Holdrege and made her home at Holdrege Memorial Homes.
Mona was a nature lover and charter member of the National Audubon Society. She was happiest spending time outdoors tending to her garden, loved bird watching, enjoyed the squirrels early in the morning and knew all the names of wildflowers. Mona and Archie also enjoyed watching the Sand Hill Cranes on the Platte River each year.
She leaves to mourn her passing one sister, Wilma Ireland of Scottsdale, Arizona; one brother, Blair Rehnberg and his wife, Georgia of Alabama; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Grace Rehnberg of Holdrege, Charlotte Rehnberg of Fort Collins, CO, Phyllis Tucker and Jack Ford both of Holdrege and Keith and Dorothy Detenbeck of Lincoln, NE; and a host of nieces and nephews who adored her artistic and gentle nature. Besides her husband, Mona was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Walter Rehnberg; three brothers: Kermit Nutzman, Ronald Rehnberg and Rex Rehnberg and two sisters: Beulah Nutzman in infancy and Sadie Carlson.
Mona will lie in state at the Sandstrom Funeral Home in Bertrand on Thursday, May 15, 2008 from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. and prior to the services at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Friday, May 16, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. - Noon.
A memorial has been established in her memory and kindly suggested to the Holdrege Memorial Homes or the Nebraska Audubon Society, P.O. Box 1575; Kearney, Nebraska 68845-1575.
