Mona Hoard

Celebration of Life Services for Mona A. Hoard will be held on Friday, January 12, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Oxford, Nebraska with Pastor Brian Jenkins and Chaplain DeWane Dow, officiating. Interment will be held in the Oxford Cemetery.

Mona Arlene Hoard, 84 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska (formerly of Oxford), passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at the Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege. Mona was born September 13, 1933 at Formoso, Kansas, the fourth of six children born to Harold and Sylvia (Hyde) Mohler. Mona was raised in Formoso, and received her primary education from a one room country school house. During the 4th grade the family moved into town, where Mona completed her education, graduating from Formoso High School with the class of 1951. When she was growing up she did odd jobs which included: delivering newspapers, babysitting, and worked in a café to help earn extra money for the family. When Mona was 16 years of age, she was asked to help out as a telephone operator, which she stayed busy at during her junior and senior years working nights from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m., and then attended school at 9:00 a.m.

On October 3, 1951, Mona was united in marriage to Keith Orville Hoard in Mankato, Kansas. Following their marriage, 13 days later, Keith was called up to serve during the Korean Conflict. To this union eight children were born: which included five daughters: Elaine, Wanda, Carla, Glenda, and Vickie; and three sons: Daniel, Rodney, and Bradley. The family moved to Mankato, Kansas in 1953, when Keith returned home from Korea. They later settled to Oxford on February 6, 1956, because of a transfer, and new position with Beardmore Chevrolet. Throughout the years, Mona was a devoted homemaker, and enjoyed making all of the children's dresses, pajamas, shirts, quilts, and always had homemade bread, pies, and cookies for everyone. Later in years, Mona was employed by Walker Post Manor Nursing Home in Oxford for eighteen years, and babysat for the grandchildren. On July 6, 2010, she was preceded in death by her husband, Keith.

Mona enjoyed collecting cups, bird memorabilia, and baskets; was an avid quilter, and loved baking. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Oxford, and loved the time spent with her large family.

Besides her husband, and parents; Mona was preceded in death by father-in-law, and mother-in-law: Andrew and Minnie Hoard; son-in-law, Randy Brink; great-granddaughter, Maddie Mae Weaver; two brothers: Virgil Mohler and his wife, Ada; and Forest Mohler in infancy; brothers-in-law: Leland Turner; Duane Wiley; Charles Hoard; Elmer Hoard and his wife, Margaret; Earl Hoard; Harry Lee Hoard; Dean Hoard; Ray Howell; Warren Taylor; and Richard Rafferty; sisters-in-law: Mary Jane Mohler; Ethel Mikesell and her husband, Charles; Junelda Dillon and her husband, Bill; Martha Jane Olsen and her husband, Dale; Barbara Hoard; and Ruth Hoard.
