Funeral Services for Myrtle D. Clayton will be conducted from the Evangelical Free Church in Loomis, Nebraska on Friday, October 6, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Tom Thompson, officiating. Interment will be in the Highland Cemetery at Bertrand, Nebraska.
Myrtle Dorothy Charlotte Clayton, 96 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska (formerly of Loomis, Nebraska) passed away on Monday, October 2, 2006 at the Christian Homes in Holdrege. Myrtle was born January 30, 1910 on the family farm north of Holdrege in Phelps County, Nebraska, the eldest of eight children of John and Mabel (Sandin) Paulsen. She was baptized as an infant and later confirmed at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bertrand. Myrtle received her education in a rural school in Gosper County south of Bertrand. Being the eldest of eight children, Myrtle assisted her mother with household duties and caring for her siblings. She also was employed in the Holdrege area working for several families in their home.
On April 11, 1934 she was united in marriage to Thomas Clayton and to this union three children were born: Marilyn, Lois and Orvale James. The family made their home on a farm southwest of Bertrand, where Myrtle worked side-by-side on the farm with her husband, Tom. She also was employed at C.A. Swanson's in Oxford, at a private nursing home in Oxford and later at Christian Homes in housekeeping.
In 1967 the couple moved to Loomis and on August 8, 1971 she was preceded in death by her husband, Tom. In 2003, Myrtle moved to Holdrege where she resided with her daughter, Marilyn's family until November of 2005 when she moved to the Christian Homes.
She was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Loomis; member of the American Legion Auxiliary, enjoyed crocheting, cooking and most of all loved spending time with her entire family.
She leaves to mourn her passing her two daughters: Marilyn Peterson and her husband, Ronald of Holdrege and Lois Clayton of Axtell, Nebraska; one son, James Clayton and his wife, Jean of Holdrege; five grandchildren: Tom Peterson and his wife, Sallee of Denver, Colorado, Shawna Nelson and her husband, Clark of Funk, Nebraska, Toby Clayton and his wife, Dawn of Holdrege, Sharla Yates and her husband, Michael of Lincoln, Nebraska and Jay Clayton and his wife, Angie of Dallas, Texas; fourteen great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; step grandchildren: Kevin Keezer of Holdrege, Jason Keezer and his wife, Vickie of Loomis and Darin Keezer and his wife, Angie of Phoenix, Arizona; two sisters: Ruth Nelson of Loomis, Nebraska and Irene Griffith of Bertrand; two brothers: Herbert Paulsen of Holdrege and John Paulsen and his wife, Edna of Funk; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her husband, Tom she was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Jody (Peterson) Talkington; two brothers: Albert Paulsen and his wife, Alberta and Roy Paulsen and his wife, Myrtle; one sister, Louise Paulsen; brothers-in-law: Densmore Nelson, Claude Griffith and sister-in-law, Helen Paulsen.
Mrs. Clayton will lie in state at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Thursday, October 5, 2006 from 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
A memorial has been established in her memory and will be designated at a later date.
