Memorial Services for Nadene M. Brown will be conducted from the First Baptist Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Friday, September 28, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Dr. Gary Winget and Chaplain DeWane Dow, officiating. Interment will be in Sumner Cemetery at Sumner, Nebraska prior to the services at 11:00 a.m.
Nadene Marie Brown, 79 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, September 23, 2007 at the Christian Homes in Holdrege. Nadene was born November 28, 1927 at Sumner, the youngest of five children of Oscar T. and Sallie A. (Swanson) Brown. Nadene received her education from Sumner. Later, Nadene and her family made their home in Holdrege, where she was employed by the Dairy Queen, worked for Hershel Sheffield, was the custodian at the First Baptist Church and lastly worked in Dietary at the Phelps Memorial Health Center for twenty years.
In later years, Nadene cared for her parents with their failing health issues. Following the passing of her parents, Nadene also provided care for several individuals in their homes. She was an avid sports fan, especially of the Holdrege Dusters and could often be found in the bleachers at countless games with her sister, Arlene.
She was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Holdrege, where she was active in many capacities including: teaching Sunday School, was active in the American Baptist Women Ministries (ABWM) both locally and at the state level and was a youth councilor at the Baptist Camp Moses Merril. As a hobby, Nadene made hundreds of crosses for the Gideon's Jail Ministry.
She leaves to mourn her passing her sisters-in-law: Marjorie Brown of Cozad, Nebraska and Lola Brown of Tacoma, Washington; twin nephews: Vernon Brown and his wife, Julie of La Grand, Oregon and Paul Brown and his wife, Carol of Spokane, Washington; two nieces: Ann Newton and her husband, Darwin of Tacoma and Elizabeth Smith and her husband, Greg of Overland Park, Kansas; a few great-nieces and nephews; other relatives and a host of friends. Besides her parents, Nadene was preceded in death by her two brothers: Clifford and Lyle and two sisters: Leona and Arlene Brown.
Nadene will lie in state at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Thursday, September 27, 2007 from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
A memorial has been established in her memory and suggested to the First Baptist Church of Holdrege or Sumner or the Phelps County Senior Center.
