A time of fellowship and remembrance for NaDyne Ekberg will be held on Monday, October 12, 2015 from 10:30 a.m. - Noon in the basement fellowship hall at the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, Nebraska. A private family inurnment will be held at the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege with Pastor Jeff Adams officiating.
Doris "NaDyne" Ekberg, 79 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. NaDyne was born April 22, 1936 in Holdrege, the only child born to Marion and Anna Louise (Kentner) Niles. NaDyne was later adopted by Wayne Hilton at the young age of 2 years old. She received her education from Holdrege Public Schools, graduating from Holdrege High School with the class of 1955.
On March 3, 1957, she was united in marriage to Duane F. Ekberg at the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege. The couple made their home in Holdrege, and to this union four children were born: Steven, Terry, Julie and Rhonda.
NaDyne worked as a Nurses Aide at the Brewster Clinic and Hospital for 17 years. She started working for the Holdrege Daily Citizen as the Circulation Manager, later transferring to Bookkeeper. In years to come Duane and NaDyne purchased Hilton Heating & Plumbing from NaDyne's father and later renamed the business, Duane and NaDyne Ekberg Plumbing, Heating, and Air Conditioning. The couple also operated the Devil's Nook package store in Holdrege, and owned several restaurants throughout the years which included: the Zephyr Café, the Cheese Corner, and the Fishing Hole. In 1990, NaDyne purchased the Skating Rink, which she operated at the City Auditorium until her retirement.
NaDyne was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege. She also enjoyed participating in bowling for many years; and volunteered with Meals-on-Wheels.
Besides her parents; NaDyne was preceded in death by her husband, Duane on March 22, 2013; daughter, Julie Lynn Ekberg at the age of 28; and sisters-in-law: Jean Johnson and her husband, Edwin and Gloria Ekberg.
She leaves to celebrate her life, her two sons: Steven D. Ekberg and his wife, Tami of Holdrege, and Terry Ekberg and his wife, Lucky of Fountain, Colorado; daughter, Rhonda K. Bronstad of Holdrege; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law: Robert Ekberg and his wife, Alta and Donald Ekberg all of Holdrege; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
There will be no visitation, NaDyne's family is honoring her wish for cremation.
A memorial has been established in NaDyne's honor and will be designated at a later date.
