Memorial Services for Nelda "Gay" Holmes will be conducted from the Church of Christ in Kearney, Nebraska on Monday, August 4, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. with Mr. Mike Schneider, officiating. Private family inurnment will be at a later date in Wyoming.
Nelda "Gay" Holmes, 72 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, passed away on Monday, July 28, 2008 at the Christian Homes in Holdrege. Gay was born June 23, 1936 at Pangburn, Arkansas, the fourth of five children of Roy and Thelma (Crosby) Vinson. She received her education in Pangburn, Arkansas and Yuma, Arizona, graduating from Yuma High School with the class of 1954. Following her education, Gay was employed as a Service Representative for Mountain State Telephone and Telegraph Company in Phoenix, Arizona.
On January 18, 1964 she was united in marriage to Donald V. Holmes in Las Vegas, Nevada. The couple made their home in Phoenix, East Texas and Wyoming until their retirement and settling to Holdrege in 1999. Gay loved spending time with her family, traveling with Don, and enjoyed cooking and sewing.
She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Don of Holdrege; one daughter, Guilia Hojem of Glendale, AZ; three sons: Charles Beckman of Coolidge, AZ, Don Holmes Jr. and his wife, Carla of North Platte, NE and Jon Holmes of Laramie, WY; eight grandchildren: Monica Hamilton, Veronica Jones, Desiray Moon, Jessica Bennett, Austin Holmes, Caden Holmes, McKenzie Holmes, and Aslynd Holmes; three great-grandchildren; two brothers: George Bryant of Klute, TX and Lamar Vinson and his wife, Ann of Searcy, AR; two sisters: Zella "Betty" Fowler and her husband, Clarence and Joy Oliver and her husband, George all of Searcy, AR; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law, Meda Bryant.
There will be no visitation, the family is honoring Gay's wish for cremation.
A memorial has been established in her memory and kindly suggested to the Christian Student Center, c/o Laramie Church of Christ; 1730 Custer Street; Laramie, Wyoming 82070.
